200km walk for UNRWA

Please consider donating to my charity walk for UNRWA. I know 200km doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm re-learning to walk after a ruptured achilles and an operation

I want to use my rehab to help those suffering in Gaza

Ah yes, because before these were invented frames could only be used once before having to be set alight 😆

A concept image for an upcoming Jaguar car. It is a very boxy design with a flat front end. The car is a pastel blue against a pink background

The concept images of the new Jaguar EVs are the perfect illustration for our ethical car design article on aerodynamics

Designs like this are intended to allow the wealthy to continue consuming more than their fair share of energy:

Its sad, because we've never needed the Greens more. But if the Greens are no longer the most progressive party when it comes to climate action and climate justice, then they must take stock and refocus

It is very sad that so many vote to continue injustices

I was in London at the weekend and it was fascinating* how many people want the convenience and proximity of living in a city yet drive a big SUV as though they're out in the countryside. It's amazing* how people don't see the contradictions of trying to live both lifestyles at once

*Appalling

The Demise of the Irish Green Party — IrishEVs A scapegoat for Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil's total disinterest in the Climate Emergency, the demise of the Irish Green Party isn't a surprise - but it comes at the most critical time for climate action

The Demise of the Irish Green Party

Far from the most progressive party on climate action & climate justice during GE2024, the Irish Green Party needs to reflect on its failures & regroup if it is to survive

New Government Must Act on Transport Emissions – Starting With EV Action — IrishEVs With Ireland facing €8bn in annual fines due to non-compliance on GHG emissions, the next Irish Government must act on transport emissions after the election

This is why the incoming Government must get serious about tackling transport emissions - the only sector that showed a year-on-year increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2023

A graph showing electric vehicle sales in Ireland for 2022, 2023 and 2024. Aside from January and November 2024, 2023 was by far the most successful year for EV sales until Government grants were cut in July, causing a significant drop off

A graph showing electric vehicle sales in Ireland for 2022, 2023 and 2024. Aside from January and November 2024, 2023 was by far the most successful year for EV sales until Government grants were cut in July, causing a significant drop off

EV sales rose above 2023 levels for only the 2nd time this year, according to latest SIMI stats

While sales were up 59.3% last month compared to November 2023, EV sales are still 24.2% below last year's results due to Government grant cuts & misinformation

"At times it has felt like a turf war where the Greens have tried to claim sole ownership over climate action, rather than seeking collaboration from potential allies"

My two cents on the Green's failure in Government and this General Election

It is as much the way they have comported themselves as the key metrics on emissions or the number of bills passed (e.g. their response to class/climate justice, which increasingly waned during their tenure in government)

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

I think we were all realistic about what was possible in the position that they were in (albeit, it was their choice to enter the coalition)

But, compared to the Programme for Government and promises prior to the election, they have underwhelmed in our opinion

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Again, the atmosphere doesn't care why we fail to cut GHG emissions - only that we do

We're not disagreeing that politics is complex and fraught with change and compromise. Just that the Greens have not delivered on their promises, and that has shown in GE24

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

Their manifesto from this election was not science-aligned. Hence why they scored so badly in the Friends of the Earth and Not Here Not Anyway reports

The Programme for Government was agreed by all parties as the deliverables for their term. They failed to deliver

Thanks Simon, we're glad you liked it.

We hope its nuanced - it could have been many tens of thousands of words long, but we hope its a fair reflection of where the party has drifted from its own values and promises

We're fully with you on wolves now! :)

This is a good essay from a Green perspective wrestling with failures instead of blaming the voters.

Our hope is, very much, that the Greens will come back stronger from this. We need them!

But we also need them to be effective, progressive and science-aligned

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

We hope there is nuance in there and that it also does recognise that the Greens did effect some meaningful changes

The question is whether that's enough, and climate science, the Programme for Government and the Climate Act all say its not, sadly

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Yes, a tiny minority is culpable for the vast majority - but we can also see that the majority aren't really digging deep when it comes to actual climate action/just transition

None of our climate action is actually in line with IPPC climate science...

1 year ago 3 0 0 0

We'd dispute that. As the article outlines, they were no longer the progressive option on climate action or climate justice

Regardless of what the national polls might say (can we ever trust them?!) there are many Green voters who have been disillusioned and voted elsewhere

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Such a disappointment, and yet they should be such an important party at this time in the Climate Emergency

Hmm, we can see the logic, but if anyone thought FF/FG were taking any climate action then they weren't paying attention in the first place

But we totally get the sentiment. We hope its a useful, nuanced article

Absolutely shameful that voter turnout is so low

So much is on the line - from homelessness, to healthcare, climate action, energy poverty, and even abortion access at threat

We are in an apathy crisis

This is what happens when you combine heavy lobbying & misinformation with politicians who don't care about the Climate Emergency...
