Before the horrific US strike on an Iranian school, the Trump admin. eliminated an entire office tasked with preventing civilian harm.
As lawmakers wrote this week, the devastating toll of this war reflects a "disregard for the strategic, legal, and moral imperative to minimize civilian harm.”

Update: The U.S. military targeted yet another civilian boat Sunday, killing 3 more people.
Thank you to @theintercept.com for your important work tracking these illegal, immoral strikes.
There must be accountability. And Congress must finally put a stop to this shameful and senseless killing.
Sen. Van Hollen:
Not another penny for ICE.
Not another penny for war on Iran.
@vanhollen.senate.gov:
As @revadamtaylor.bsky.social writes, MLK "gave one of the best and most lasting critiques of the immoral tradeoffs of unnecessary and immoral war:"
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
Good news! The House passed bipartisan legislation this week to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.
“This is a monumental victory in a long-fought battle to protect the safety, dignity, and humanity of our Haitian neighbors," @pressley.house.gov said.

The people being killed in Trump's boat strikes pose no military threat and are not at war with the U.S.
📣“They are not combatants. They are civilians suspected of committing crimes, and to kill them without any due process is an unlawful extrajudicial killing.”

This week, more than 300 people joined us in DC, coming together from across the country, across generations, and across faiths to tell Congress:
📣 Not another penny for war on Iran!
We continue to be appalled by the Trump admin's illegal + immoral boat strikes.
3 new strikes were reported this week, and 177+ people have now been senselessly killed in this campaign.
“Murder is the general term for premeditated killing outside of armed conflict." - @bcfinucane.bsky.social
We were so excited to be joined by Senator Chris Van Hollen this week to present him with our annual Justice Award!
Thank you, @vanhollen.senate.gov, for your moral leadership and unwavering partnership for peace and justice!
I think of war through the lens of someone who survived one. It means displacement and irreversible trauma.
The continued war with Iran will mean more death, more suffering, and more chaos.
End the war.
One year ago today, I met Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador.
As I said from day one, this case was never about one man, it was about all of us. If they can deprive him of his rights, they can deprive you of yours.
One year on, they’re still trying but we’re still fighting.
“We’re going to continue pressing Congress to hold more votes and debates on military aid to Israel until its support for Israel’s war crimes against Palestinians, Lebanese civilians and communities across the region comes to an end," FCNL's @hassaneltayyab.bsky.social told @aljazeera.com.
Yesterday, 40 senators voted to block an arms sale to the Israeli gov.
A strong majority of Senate Democrats now oppose unconditional aid to Israel—aligning with the views of most Americans.
This historic vote is not only about arms sales, but a vote against more escalation of the war on Iran.
The United States needs to do its part and act boldly to bring about peace by forcing the warring parties and outside groups to the negotiating table. Sudan deserves peace. buff.ly/DZHlfws
Today marks three years since the outbreak of war in Sudan. Fueled by outside guns and money, the war has displaced a third of all Sudanese, and led to massive gender-based violence & even genocide. But the Sudanese people are still building peace and safety for themselves. buff.ly/LEQglxg
Tax Day today gives us the chance to imagine a government which works for us - where we invest our shared resources in building the world we seek, rather than funding war or giving handouts to the wealthy buff.ly/RGg6HGM
We are thrilled to present our 2026 Snyder Peace Award to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal!
Thank you, @jayapal.house.gov, for your courageous leadership for peace, and for sharing this inspiring and hopeful message with us!
👏 Huge shout out to all of the amazing folks who are mobilizing with us this week to call on Congress to block more funding for war with Iran!

Today, I received a notification of another death in ICE custody. That’s 47 deaths during Trump’s second term.
We must stand up and demand real accountability — ICE has a duty to provide care to those in their custody.
"Of the $2.2 trillion Trump requested, 80% — $1.8 trillion — is tied to war and policing."
Meanwhile, investments in "human security," like healthcare + food assistance programs would receive major cuts.
Budgets define our national priorities. This is not what a moral budget looks like.
This week, I will be forcing a vote on legislation to block the sale of nearly half a billion dollars worth of bombs and bulldozers to the Israeli military.
The extremist Netanyahu government that has committed genocide in Gaza does not need more military support from American taxpayers.
Join us and take a few minutes to make your voice heard today!

5. Funding this senseless war while neglecting the needs of ordinary families would be a profound moral outrage.
4. This war is harming the global economy and making all of us less secure.
3. The American people overwhelmingly oppose more war.
2. The human toll of this war is unacceptable.
1. There is no justification for this war.
This weekend, hundreds of advocates from across the country are joining us to lobby Congress to oppose more funding for war on Iran.
🧵Here are 5 simple but crucial reasons lawmakers must block even one more penny for this disastrous war. ⬇️
