I saw the last reply from that person right before they blocked me saying this is unimportant, so here's why it's important:
getting fully blocked for saying we should recognize linguistic diversity in Eastern Europe with the same care and nuance as Western Europe is wild but here we are
I'm sure saying all that makes you feel better about it, but I'm not going to give you a pat on the back because you do the accent poorly - furthermore, I am not the person you are accountable to, this is between you and your morals. happy dice rolling.
if you are determined to stick with it, best practice is to just own that it's russian and call it as such, instead of trying to skirt responsibility by calling it Eastern European, because honestly? that's the worst, and the most textbook propaganda move lol
I'm certainly not the accent police so do what you want with your character, if I stuck my nose up at everyone who is done this that would include some of my very good friends.
that said, I doubt anyone is *making you* keep it up.
it's not necessarily your fault that you were uninformed, because ru propaganda is very popular in America, but russia didnt wake up and decide to be bad one day in 2022, and I'd encourage you to look into the history of colonialism and genocide going back hundreds of years.
stepping off my soapbox, I'm genuinely not mad at anyone in particular, I recognize that ru propaganda is very popular in America, but this is a massive blindspot for a crowd that calls themselves anti-colonial, and I know we can do better than we have been doing
when you choose your bad canned russian accent because "it's all the same anyway" and "it's not worth the effort for the bit", you are doing nothing but prove you have been effectively propagandized
"are they reallyyyyy that different?" as an example, russian and Ukrainian are as lexically similar as Italian and Spanish, soooo... pretty much the only thing stopping you from knowing the difference is ~giving a shit~

it stays annoying to me that western ttrpg people cannot fathom there being more than one singular accent when you go east of germany, and worst of all, the one y'all pick to be that representation is of a country actively committing genocide and attempting to re-expand is colonial borders 👍
