How a Janet Jackson song crashed laptops for 9 years In 2001, Microsoft support employees made a shocking discovery: Janet Jackson's hit, "Rhythm Nation," could cause laptops to crash. New details have now come to light showing what was done about it.

God I love stories like this.

'Rhythm Nation' used to crash hard drives.

Now that the Supreme Court has ordered the Trump administration to refund companies what they paid in tariffs, yet there are still tariffs in place, what's the plan? Consumers continue to fork money over to corporations who will later get another refund?

Just an FYI to all those anti-sag gamers:

When video game companies fire the og actors wanting a sag contract signed and hire non-union talent overseas? That's union-busting. Saying "idc about that" makes you unequivocally anti-union.

My optometrist is still rocking an N95 in 2026. Every year. He cares & it shows. I actually look forward to my annual eye exams because I am safe & the ventilation is good too. Plus, fun new glasses 🤓

This is pretty cool. The sleep cycle app has a cough radar feature for big cities using anonymized aggregate data from users

Apparently, the quickest way to open the Strait of Hormuz if for Donald and his coconspirators in insider market manipulation to have just made large-volume oil futures trades.

I truly think that if we resign ourselves to a middle-of-the-road centrist in 2028 we are blowing a once in a generation shot to make real change out of a mistaken fear of suburbia. We need a reformer, people are hungry for it.

Pay attention folks. This is how it's done. Trump sues his own DOJ, run by his private attorney, for $10 billion. Normally that would go through the courts with the DOJ arguing AGAINST giving Trump $10 billion.

Instead, his DOJ will negotiate a settlement OUTSIDE of court. Literally inside dealing.

Personally don't recommend these. As the article notes, these properties are typically achieved through PFAS, which can shed carcinogens in your home (which you then inhale) or come out in the wash (polluting waterways for decades). Will try to do a thread on how to treat stains in the wash.

Ontario high school attendance drops to 40% of target as government considers changes | Globalnews.ca The Ford government is currently considering giving students in grades 9 to 12 credit on their final marks if they attend class as part of new legislation.

“The decline worsened substantially when students returned to class after the pandemic…”

It’s the COVID. Wake TF up already. It didn’t go away just because the government said it did & we wanted to believe that. Kids continue to be harmed because adults can’t face the truth. Wake TF up.

As wealth concentrates, so does power — the power to influence elections, shape policy, tilt markets and define the terms of public debate.

Taxing billionaires is not radical.

What is radical is allowing a system where extreme wealth exists alongside widespread hardship.

Genuinely depressing to me that your partner has to Doordash to raise money for your cancer treatment when you get old. What happens if you don't have a partner? Are we just working to pay a landlord and save up for a medical emergency when we're elderly?

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:

1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%

Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.

That is how we will pay for it.

I have lost multiple friendships for simply asking people to sit outside instead of inside on lovely days.

I have a bunch of friends who think I abandoned them after refusing to sit with me in the outdoor section of a restaurant on a nice day, multiple times. I mean it seemed like a simple ask to me but my refusal to dine indoors was a bridge too far, I guess.

OMG this sounds like someone who asked people to mask around her and they refused and reframed that as she’s “isolating” herself. Ffs.

Asking Eric: Friend never recovered COVID-era depression; new terminal illness adds to the tragedy It's heartbreaking.

Much is unsaid here, but maybe she didn’t want to keep getting COVID from her clueless friends? Or maybe her depression was directly related to her COVID infections? And worst of all, perhaps her terminal cancer diagnosis is related to her COVID infections (as research is increasingly indicating)?
