Burchett is right: the most DC thing ever *is* a member of Congress blaming the city for something he and his colleagues did themselves.

Happy Surrender and Freedom Day! On April 9, 1865, Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant and the Army of the Potomac. home.nps.gov/apco/planyou...
I think that’s harder to do that at MLB level when you’re taking guys’ game checks, though
WHAT DID YOU SAY?
Yessss, that's fantastic for you and for AP! You'll be great!
CB Bucknor, who is not even looking at the base, ruled Jake Bauers didn't step on first base on his infield single here.
He stepped on literally the middle of the base.
Festivities will include beating Washington Nationals pitchers like pinatas.
Yes, Palencia had tears in his eyes before the final pitch:
"Yeah, I was crying. I have to be honest. I was crying. I knew that moment was mine. I knew I could do it. I knew he was going to swing and miss. I just knew it. Those moments, you have to be romantic with baseball. I just knew it."
"Top performers"
They’re telling me a great empire will be destroyed if I attack Persia. Even the oracles who don’t like me very much, very nasty, they all said to me, “Sir, it’s one of the great empires, and it’ll be destroyed. And all because you attacked Persia.” That’s what they’re telling me.
today at the World Metaphors Classic the leader of the USA didn't bother to find out the details of the situation his team was in and blindly assumed they would win a matchup they ended up losing, jeopardizing their long-term standing for no good reason
He’s on the 40-man already. He was a waiver claim, not a MiLB signing.
I love PCA so much.
Fun fact: You can just make out the section of Arnold’s lapel that had a portrait of Maria Shriver — until they separated and it was painted over.
Do not let this incredible day for American sports go by without listening to this beautiful story about Rony Seikaly—DJ Rony Seikaly—stepping up for Magic Johnson when he needed it the most.

this is an absolutely infuriating angle to take in this situation. why is it on the union to find creative solutions to ownership problems, exactly? why is it on the union to save owners from themselves when it comes to sacrificing games?
Baltimore Sun Guild tweet with picture of printed paper page with AI slop: Sun management has once again disparaged our talented HUMAN reporters and their work, this time by filling more than half a page in today’s paper with AI slop.
This is nuts: Baltimore Sun guild @baltsunguild.bsky.social reporting that management ran an entire half printed page of AI-generated "analysis" of the governor's State of the State address
The fifth paragraph reads: “The newspaper’s duty is to its readers and to the public at large, and not to the private interests of its owners.”
Was going through some materials accumulated over my many years at The Washington Post, and I was struck by these words of wisdom from the legendary Eugene Meyer, particularly (in light of recent events) the fifth graf.
Dear friends on Bluesky, it's been an overwhelming week since the mass layoff at the Post. I'll be continuing the work and would be so grateful if you sign up here to keep up with my future journalism. docs.google.com/forms/d/1dlh...
I love how this process is self-reinforcing. They have a good reputation for turning guys around, so they can sign more sought-after guys, so the success rate improves, and on and on.
Next up: Cosmetologist carbon dating
I’ll miss working with all the brilliant folks at @postsports.bsky.social: we published bangers, reached millions of readers, made a real impact. Jeff Bezos killed the world’s best sports section. Here are some stories I’m proud of:
What an on-brand way for a lying coward to go out.
Will Lewis was too busy to join the call to tell his staff he’s destroying the @washingtonpost sports department yesterday … but he did have time to walk the red carpet at NFL Honors here in San Francisco today. Amazing.

100% of these funds will be transferred directly to my hardworking, light-shining, talented colleagues who were a part of The Post's mass layoffs.
please spread the word. small acts of care mean a whole lot in times of uncontrollable darkness.
A staggering statement from former Washington Post editor Marty Baron: "This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world's greatest news organizations."
1/ BREAKING: Government documents reviewed by ProPublica identify Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa, 43, and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez, 35, as the two who fired their weapons during the deadly encounter with Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
You walk into this bar and show your ICE mugshot, you don't pay a dime.
Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
