Yeah, I’ve never quite got over the profound moral injury aspect of watching so many Americans absolutely refuse to even mildly sacrifice to help others during Covid - watching MAGAs somehow become even more evil was radicalizing.
And now the bastards are trying to destroy MRNA research.

ICE releases delayed reports detailing the deaths of four detainees earlier this year after the agency failed to meet a 90-day deadline required by Congress.
Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.
SEN. @ossoff.senate.gov : “The faithless president depicts himself as Christ while he plunges the nation into wars of choice… Remember — While you pay more for everything, the First Family’s wealth is growing by billions. Because they’re crooks, and everybody knows it.”
This piece begins with Amity Shlaes' most common and most deceitful trick -- citing the unemployment numbers in 1938, when the country fell into a recession because FDR had been persuaded to *ease off* the New Deal, as proof that the New Deal didn't work.
Pure hackery.
Telling people about the good, useful use cases for AI is kinda like telling people about the 30-50 feral hogs you need your AR-15 for
It is entirely true and yet so completely divorced from the lived experience of your audience that you sound ridiculous
I bang this drum a LOT, but having the hard copies has saved me thousands at least twice. We early adopted Apple music, that cloud library got eaten; we got massive local storage, that got a fairly fatal bug. Every now and then an old CD *dies* but it's a $20 loss instead of $10k
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.
in my day we used to call this "Sex Tourism" for "Mail order Brides."
A peer reviewed study shows a promising link between flu and shingles vaccines and a reduced risk of dementia. A heroin addict who cut off a raccoon’s penis for “further study” says these vaccines cause autism. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.
I hate Al and I refuse to use it Peter, if you don't use Al a bunch of super rich men will lose a lot of money I already said I hated Al Harry, you don't need to sell it to me
Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

Pancreatic cancer usually kills within a year or two of diagnosis. In this trial, nearly all 8 responders are still alive six years later. The 5-year survival rate is usually only around 12%. We should be increasing federal funding for mRNA research, not cutting it.
⊥rump is "finding that getting out of [the war he started] is not as easy as burying your dead ex-wife in a golf course or hiring judges and appointing Justice Department officials to bury your crimes."
They have always been sore winners but it was apparent even in the first term that part of what they were mad about was that the people they didn't like didn't just disappear. Then I thought it was "just" that they expected cultural hegemony. Now it's clearer the goal was eradication.
The wild cultural overreaction in the wake of Kirk’s death looks increasingly bizarre the further we get away from it.

Oh, and "drug policy experts" do not actually say that "pressure" gets people to stop being addicted. People who are addicted know they should quit, and are almost always under intense pressure to do so. If guilt, shame, and consequences were enough, we wouldn't have an addiction problem!
Librarians LOVE a knotty little question! I watched a room of PhDs absolutely light up when someone tossed a particularly involved query into their midst. (Also v impressive watching all that brainpower swing into focus and solve something so quickly)
I kept the notebook I used to to take notes for this and Riven. 🤣
I am Gen X, barely. I tend to fit the Xennial stereotypes - my classroom was usually the first to get the computer, then the newer computers, then the Apple towers, lol. Learned everything along with the teachers.
I think this is correct. Congress gave Trump the personalist, violent paramilitary force he's always wanted, but without the statutory hurdles, internal accountability, resistance from the courts, and institutional pushback that would come with deploying the actual military.
Yeah I worked in a system that had too many, and bad, middle managers. If they'd canned the bad managers they could have hired twice as many nurses. Would have helped a lot. 😂😭
THIS. I have kept track for 20+ years.

*talking to teenage militant atheist self*
current me: okay so there’s a big fight between the government and the catholic church
teenage me: got it, so we’re obviously on the side of the government
current me: I, uh, you might want to sit down for this one
I grew up on a farm where we regularly had to fix our own tractors. I also briefly worked for John Deere and watched as they tried to justify why people shouldn't be allowed to do that. Get absolutely fucked Deere, right to repair forever and ever

I went to bed without check social media, and now Trump is posting himself as Jesus, insulting the Pope, Italy is mad, and the New York Times finally ran an article that maybe Trump was losing it?
…okay, honestly the only one that really surprises me is the Times.
A huge number of cradle Catholics I’ve heard talk about him—lapsed or not—have gone on to talk A Certain Way about adult converts, and I think non-Catholics don’t really understand this part of the culture because Protestantism is so much more loosey-goosey about a lot of this kind of stuff
Like they’ve kind of bought into what they always THOUGHT the Catholic Church was, instead of being embedded in the very specific day-to-day world of it from childhood, and like… in so many respects those are not really even the same Church
