Historic news! The Bronx Children's Museum is joining the Cultural Institutions Group. This is the first Bronx institution in more than 40 years to join. The Museum is led by #SerendipityLit author @deniselit4kids.bsky.social.

A win for the Bronx, children, and for culture citywide.

Feeling seen.
As a creative, writer, and community leader, this kind of recognition means more when it comes from people who know your heart and your work. Thank you, Regina Brooks & the Serendipity Literary Agency, for always cheering me on

It rained at the Woke Baby Book Fair, so we brought the joy inside the Children’s Collection at Countee Cullen Library & filled the space w/ rhythm, language, & love to celebrate the Schomburg Center’s Centennial Festival.

Thanks to @mobrowne & authors who shared their hearts.

Today my youngest played the cello beautifully—even if we couldn’t see her from our seats (thanks to a giant piano blocking our view).

But what stood out most? Her big sister, cheering at full volume. She shouted her name and clapped so hard, people turned to look.

Too loud? Maybe. But...

A young girl asked me today, “How did you get the courage to write a book and read it to everyone?”

I told her:
I had a story in my imagination
I wrote it down & kept revising
I found an illustrator
I practiced reading it aloud

She paused, then said, “I think I can do that too.” My heart is full.

Cartoon bear wearing a construction hat and vest walking with pen, pencil, and paintbrush across a background sketch of the LA skyline with palm trees. Handwritten text surrounding the image says: "Kid Lit for Los Angeles" Typed text is the same info in post. There is a photo of the item contributor.

Here's a fun one generously donated by the Bronx Children's Museum in NYC - a book party! Host your author event at the NYC museum!

Excuse me while I process the fact that my teenager just called my Timberlands from 1995 “vintage.”

VINTAGE?? Girl, these boots have stories to tell, and I swear I was just wearing them last week (okay, maybe last decade).

Should I be flattered or offended?

I sat behind Judy Blume at Jacqueline Woodson's 10th anniversary event for Brown Girl Dreaming. That's it. That's the post. A whole brag. And honestly? I'm still all warm and fuzzy about it.

"Chile" (pronounced chīl) is a slang term often used to express disbelief, exasperation, or amusement, typically as an interjection. It adds emphasis to a statement, much like "Wow," "Seriously," or "Oh my goodness!"

@MerriamWebster, can we make this official?

My teenage girls are taller than me now, with bigger hands and shoe sizes. But when they hug me, they still bend to rest their heads on my shoulder, just like when they were little. No matter how much they grow, I’m still their safe place. #momlife
