I am thankful to still have a roof over my head and a family that supports my endeavors. Besides SMG4, I worked in fast food for a time and made the same amount I did from Lumi’s merch sales.
Even while looking for work I don’t expect much financially from anyone reaching out in the indie space.
Lumi completely bled me dry and what little I did make from it was merch sales, and even that didn’t amount to anything other than paying a few month’s rent.
It ended up being unsuccessful algorithm wise and I’ve since accepted that I will not be pursuing avenues to make more.
100% echoing this and also want to add: This is why community is so important too. It does not initially solve the financial setback but supporting one another in some capacity still helps water each other’s gardens despite that you may not be able to invest in a whole greenhouse.
my one contribution to the discourse: until there is universal basic income and universal healthcare globally, you are gonna have to either fight for those things to exist or support indie animation with your dollars because we still exist in capitalism.

There’s been so many things I’ve learned, things I wish I knew sooner, and what I’d have done differently.
It’s hard to believe 4 years have passed since it’s initial crowdfunding. I’m not who I was, before. It’s an odd feeling.
