I forgot I had this. I need to get off social media completely.
I’m intrigued.
Downtown Phoenix coffee shop Xanadu is "closed until further notice," following the sentencing of the owner to a year in prison after being caught in a child sex sting by Surprise Police.

Wait, as a Great Lakes girlie, I need that Great Lakes one. I grew up on Lake Michigan!
Okay but like, sharp drops in gas prices is really bad guys — in July 2008, gas prices were at a record high. In December 2008, prices were at all time lows. Market crashed very shortly after —> Great Recession.
Duh
You know what made me a prepper? My emergency preparedness classes in grad school. 🤣
One of my annual goals this year is to get trained and certified in emergency preparedness. I’m a prepper. My new boss has no idea.
People are rediscovering Imogen Heap. And I’m here for it — but is Zach Braff about to have an indie movie resurgence too?
Why Heard?
Graph shows that Maie Bartlett Heard has second lowest expenditure out of 14 schools at $18,542.72.
Facts. It’s 4th highest in enrollment. 2nd highest in 1-8, which is revenue generating ages. Has second LOWEST per pupil expenditure.
The district says the school has declining enrollment, low young population to enroll, lack of community, and that it’s too expensive to run.
The district has not responded to any FOIA requests, refuses to acknowledge our existence and keeps telling people that the data provided to me by the state of Arizona, Department of Education, is wrong. 🤨
I should probably tweet about what’s going on with this school situation. It’s a little long, but really important. We’re struggling to get a news station to cover it because it’s “just an elementary district” but dude, it’s so bad. Like brown vs board bad.
Over 95% of Heard students qualify for free/reduced lunch, & nearly a third are learning English. Heard is a vital community school, but it needs support. A tax credit donation directly to Heard helps provide opportunities. Be sure to specify Heard School!

Through my work to help save Heard School, I’ve met wonderful families in my neighborhood. My son is too young to attend, but I assumed all schools in a district were similar. I’ve since learned Heard is deeply underfunded. Some get Robotics Club & Disneyland trips, Heard students often miss out.
We are one of the biggest tax generator neighborhoods in the district and yet, our community school is severely and what I believe, intentionally underfunded. Kids at the public montesorri school get field trips and grow their own food. Heard kids don’t get field trips or book fairs or carnivals.
And I’m upper middle class — like realistically if I were in Scottsdale and this happened, I’d be pissed but unphased. I didnt even care when I found out until I started meeting with families and hearing their lives. This has shook me to my absolute core. I’m reliving 1950’s segregation in 2025.
I wanted to be Harriet the Spy so bad.
I’m really having a difficult time grappling with the fact so many kids are going to lose education and also go hungry. Schools provide families with so much.
I cried at work and my coworker was like “who?”
I’m very seriously considering quitting my job and starting a micro school because I’m so concerned that so many of these children in my neighborhood who have parents who rely on them being home from school right at 2:30 will leave education all together.
My husband is recalling a school board member. 🙃
Oh and the land was donated by said philanthropist for the school to be built on. Maie Bartlett Heard, I’m so sorry this country failed the open notes test.
They’re gonna tear down a historic school to build apartments and a bus stop and the school is named after an education philanthropist. America truly is the bad place.
People keep telling me I should send my kids to farther away schools like Kenilworth or Shaw (which by the way, is misusing desegregation funds to build a segregated school) and like, why wouldn’t I just go .3 miles to another district that doesn’t actively oppress its students?
It’s literally segregation.
The phoenix elementary school closures should be national news but we can barely get anyone to cover it.
