I see I got autocorrect got. Bum.

This was another cracking essay in the is years advent calendar.

My mother and I discussed the fact that we can only let - cope with letting - the apathy drop for short bursts. There seem to be no glimmers of hope, only abhorrent behaviour we hoped belonged to history. This level of grief is overwhelming. Perhaps engagement starts with facing the grief?

Last year, I saw a bloodied, dead baby outside a hospital.

I've been seeing dead babies quite frequently since, and I've noticed a lot of people seem to ignore them.

Maybe they don’t see them at all.
