A major community celebration is happening in Surrey this weekend!
One of the largest Vaisakhi celebrations outside India takes place on Saturday, April 18.
Vaisakhi is one of the holiest days in the Sikh calendar and recognizes the creation of the Khalsa.

Free prescription birth control supports choice, affordability, and better reproductive health outcomes for people throughout BC.
According to research from UBC, 10% more people are using prescription contraceptives now that they're free, and 49% more are trying long-acting reversible contraceptives like IUDs.
This month marks three years since BC started providing free prescription birth control. In that time, nearly 400,000 contraceptives have been dispensed across the province.

On Sunday, Christians in BC and worldwide mark Easter, a sacred day recognizing the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the end of Lent. People will attend church services, gather for family meals, decorate eggs and search for Easter eggs. Wishing all who celebrate a Happy Easter.
The result: more doctors, more nurses, and stronger care for people across the province.
There's more work to do, but this progress means more people getting care when they need it, and closer to home.
We’re also training more people here at home.

And we’re attracting global talent to support patients in BC.
1,200+ internationally trained doctors were licensed in the past year.
And 3,400+ internationally educated nurses have been registered since 2023.
Our health-care workforce is growing faster than BC’s population (15%).

Nurse Practitioners = 137%
Population = 15%
BC now has the most doctors per capita in Canada, with 15,000+ physicians.
And 7,800+ family doctors, up 23% since 2017
The number of nurse practitioners has also tripled since 2018, bringing the total to 1,650+.
With 78,750+ nurses in BC, including an increase of 3,300+ in 2025 alone.
They're helping expand care in communities across the province, including rural and remote areas.
Today, 77% of people in BC have a primary care provider.
4,000+ people are being matched every week.
And more health-care workers are joining the system.
For ex, 500+ doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and allied health professionals from the US have accepted jobs in BC.
More people in BC are getting the care they need, closer to home.
Since 2023, over 600,000 people have been connected to a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
And we’re now connecting 200,000+ British Columbians each year to a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
