Kia ora, Ōtautahi!
A warm welcome Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury as our latest Library Supporter, championing open scholarship, Māori knowledge systems, and research in the public interest from Aotearoa New Zealand.
We're delighted to have you with us!
Here's our lovely Thoth powered catalogue, showcasing books from across our OBC publishers: catalogue.openbookcollective.org/books
Many congrats to @thoth-metadata.eurosky.social on this major platform update. Thoth are not just one of our members, but our metadata management partner. They power our own collective catalogue and are making it far easier for small publishers to manage and disseminate their works. Well done all!
It's the last day of #UKSG2026 ...

Just in time for #UKSG2026 the @openlibhums.org team have launched this blistering Robin Hood poster campaign. Divest from commercial publishing (the rich) & redirect your library budget into non-profit scholar-led publishing like @ojcollective.bsky.social & @openbookcollective.bsky.social ! 💪🏼🔥💪🏼
Our Managing Director, @joedeville.bsky.social, and Community Engagement Lead, @heroicendeavour.eurosky.social, will both be at #UKSG2026 tomorrow! Find them at the COPIM stand (#66) or roaming around talking about all things OA books, OBC, and collective funding!
We are very pleased to be able to announce that OBC and @ojcollective.bsky.social have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, committing to work together to achieve a sustainable, open access future, for both books and journals obc.copim.pub/collaboratin...
Neues Mitglied!
New member alert! Today we're welcoming @verfassungsblog.de to the OBC family.
Verfassungsblog is a fully #OpenAccess world-leading source of expert analysis and commentary on constitutional law and politics - with nearly 5 million views last year, it's more necessary & relevant than ever!
It was great to see @rluk.ac.uk's recent call for collective OA funding. We also need to ensure that the full diversity of HEIs and libraries can and do participate as a shared, collective commitment to help support a new publishing ecosystem, not just historic or 'research-led' HEIs and libraries.
RLUK's new principles call for collective funding, not-for-profit governance protected from commercial acquisition, bibliodiversity, and transparency. For us here at the OBC, these principles are at the core of our operating model. 📚 #OpenAccess #DiamondOA
1/ This feels like a watershed moment to me. @rluk.ac.uk's Collections Strategy Network has posted new guidance on the criteria Research Libraries should use when making their investment decisions on #OpenAccess monographs, inc. recommending @openbookcollective.bsky.social as one model to consider
We are very happy to see RLUK so strongly advocating for its members to consider supporting organisations like the Open Book Collective! Having one of the UK's most influential library bodies align so clearly with what we've been building is a real validation of this work.
These principles are our operating model - and with 96 libraries across 12 countries already supporting us, they clearly resonate across the sector. With the post-2029 REF mandate for monographs and chapters looming, it's more important than ever to invest OA now and help build capacity to meet it.
RLUK's just-published principles for evaluating OA monograph models call for: collective funding, not-for-profit governance protected from commercial acquisition, bibliodiversity, transparency & equity.
Sounds familiar! So if you're an RLUK library wondering where to start - look no further!
