At no point in the past 30 years of my career in the technology industry has any boss ever said "gee Ross, the latest technological advances have made you 5x more productive, would you like to cut back to working 8 hours a week for the same pay?" and I have very much noticed the absence of that [β¦]

Opening slide. There is a barcode above all the words. The top line, in red, reads "AN ECONOMY OF".... The lower line is much larger, in teal, and it reads "EMPATHY".
I'm nearly done with my slides for next week's North Bay Python talk (barring all the last minute additions/edits of course...)
Is it unusual to have a "works cited" page for a conference talk? π€

This looks awesome.
Wonder what they'll call the next one...
GODZILLA MINUS NEGATIVE ONE?
11ish days until the conference.
Three reasons why you should register soon:
1. We can only cater for restricted diets if we order this week
2. Our fancy armchair order has to go in this week.
3. We'll be slightly less anxious about sales.
Register now/tomorrow! [β¦]

have you thought about buying your North Bay Python ticket sooner than 12 days out from the event?
If so, you should probably buy your ticket quite soon

Friendliness towards AI has already escalated into real world abuse and violence.
Reading any account from the data workers in the global south is gut wrenching, and stories like the one linked are sadly not uncommon [β¦]
With a bit of #NBPy chatter going on today, an update on my talk which I may have revised a multitude of times (I've lost count)... The good news is, I think it's in near final form and clocks in just a tad bit over 25 mins (I'll have to tighten it slightly, though not too much give left!) [β¦]

Of course we accepted the talk about cats, we are exactly that sort of conference.

@chrisjrn oh good, now I can see what my talk is about... π
Jkjk
fun discovery, I had 90% completed writing this year's #NBPy website modifications and didn't set it up. Now I have. Look at our transit guide! https://northbaypython.org/getting-here
also: no year prefixes. Now I can just modify the site as needs be.
@chrisjrn Just FYI, the talk pages linked from the speakers section on the homepage are not found (404).

Hold on. Did they talk to teleportation experts? What kind of expert do you get for this one?
I am also dubious. Everyone is dubious.

@bitprophet @offby1 Yes, hard agree. Thanks!
@bitprophet @offby1 A tiny part of me weeps when seeing "writing" referred to as "superfluous intellectual labor".
Mind you, there is a lot of writing that is superfluous BS, because there is a misunderstanding about what writing even is to begin with.
But nevermind me, I'm just an English [β¦]
