Nearly a year ago, Sebastian Gorka declared a national counterterrorism strategy “imminent.” By July, he was “on the cusp” of unveiling the plan — a phrase he repeated three months later in October. And again in January.
To date, no strategy has appeared.

NEW: Stories about pardons are often about presidential power. But what about people on the other side of that grace? The Coulson family may never receive millions from a wrongful death lawsuit it won years ago. @jeremykohler.bsky.social
I am telling you, you have to read this story. It is absurd. It is bizarre. Twists and turns! Molly Parker is a great storyteller.
The Texas Medical Board has disciplined three doctors ProPublica previously investigated whose patients died after receiving delayed or inappropriate pregnancy care under the state’s strict abortion ban.
NEW: Porsha Ngumezi and Nevaeh Crain died during miscarriages in Texas after doctors delayed treatment.
The state’s medical board has ruled that substandard care led to the deaths, but the doctors were given minimal punishment.

"When HUD began dismantling housing here a decade ago, officials promised there would be an effort to build back. Today, the only thing that has been built is one duplex, still unfinished."

Two men promised a $1.1 million 3D printer could fix Cairo, Illinois’ housing crisis. The more reporter Molly Parker asked questions, the weirder things got. @capitolnewsil.bsky.social
“Over the past eight months, the more questions I asked, the more public officials distanced themselves from the project and the company. …I was determined to know: Was this simply another failed pitch to this dirt-poor delta town — or something more?”

Despite casting violent criminals as the primary target of Trump's Memphis task force, the operation has swept up more than 800 undocumented immigrants. Only 2% of the arrests were for violent crimes. w/ @mlk50.com
Faced with public health concerns about lead, 13 states, including New Jersey, Louisiana and Iowa, have passed laws requiring universal lead screening, meaning all kids would get a blood test before entering kindergarten.
But not Nebraska.

NEW: Trump ordered a law enforcement surge in Memphis to end violent crime. But the vast majority of the more than 5,200 arrests made by the Memphis Safe Task Force in its first four months have been for nonviolent crimes. w/ @mlk50.com

In our updated code of ethics, we also discuss crypto investments: "All employees must be careful when making cryptocurrency investments. The holding of memecoins or speculative assets connected to specific public figures or news events is prohibited."
ProPublica and @frontlinepbs.bsky.social found more than 300 protesters and bystanders who were arrested on charges like assaulting an immigration agent or interfering with law enforcement. Over and over, the accusations fell apart under scrutiny.
When you add it all up, the collapse in immigration looks like this: a decline of roughly 50K for illegal (even including the people arrested and not released) and a decline of about 132K for legal. Over 70% of the cut in immigration has come from LEGAL immigration.
Responding to changing times, @propublica.org has updated our code of ethics to say, "no employee should wager on the outcome of news events on the prediction markets — regardless of whether or not they are involved in coverage of said event."

ICYMI, the most definitive account of how President Donald Trump has systematically demolished federal guardrails that prevented him from overturning the 2020 election. @dougbockclark.bsky.social @jenafifield.bsky.social
Late last summer, a small group of political appointees began convening at DHS HQ. The group — which once called itself “Team America” — looked for federal levers it could pull to make Trump’s March executive order about elections a reality. @dougbockclark.bsky.social @jenafifield.bsky.social

A deep dive: When Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election, the institutional guardrails of American democracy held. But if faced with the same tests today, those barriers — and people who held the line — would largely be missing. @dougbockclark.bsky.social @jenafifield.bsky.social
