Our planet is sending us a clear signal.
From climate change to deforestation and land-use change, the pressures on our planet are growing.
On #EarthDay and every day, the world must accelerate its shift to a sustainable economy, one that works for both people and the planet.
Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.
1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.
In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.
Most people have no idea. 🧵
Britain’s AI data centre boom is about to collide with water scarcity. @globalactionplan.bsky.social's new report warns 84% of proposed sites are in areas that are already or projected to be water stressed by 2040. buff.ly/kmHJ2qJ

An ostrich with its head in the sand
WE'RE GOING TO RUN OUT OF FOOD.
The day the UK govt was supposed to release a report warning of catastrophic food collapse, it also published data showing England had just had its second-worst harvest on record.
So they cancelled the report's launch, calling it "too negative".
"Voluminous empirical data show that most of the public cares about climate change... But this overwhelming majority does not realize it’s a majority, partly because its existence is not reflected in most news coverage. In other words, they have been a silent majority but also a *silenced* majority"

The critical AMOC Atlantic current is far more likely to collapse than was thought. Already at its weakest for 1,600 years because of global heating, a collapse would bring extreme cold to western Europe in winter, drought in summer and raise sea levels 50-100 cms

"There is no justification for a regressive system in which the super-rich contribute less than the rest of us," write @josephestiglitz.bsky.social, @gabrielzucman.bsky.social, and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social.
Extraordinary that nowhere in an article on resilience did PM find space to include the growing threat posed to UK security by the dramatic decline in the health of nature around the world - especially since his own intelligence chiefs have recently spelt it out for him in no uncertain terms 👇
The Guardian: Oceans Critical Atlantic current significantly more likely to collapse than thought Scientists say finding is ‘very concerning’ as collapse would be catastrophic for Europe, Africa and the Americas Damian Carrington Environment editor
Has any media besides @theguardian.com even covered this horrifying news?
With the local elections fast approaching this deserves revisiting:
Farage squirms as Rep. Jamie Raskin obliterates the "Putin-loving, free speech imposter, Trump sycophant".
Please share as widely as possible. The news media have a convenient habit of forgetting about Farage's service to Russia.
Graphic of an emergency alert. Text reads; “Sudan. Three years of conflict. Over 33 million people in need of aid. This is not a test. Sudan is a real emergency. We can’t continue to ignore it.” Fake red button at the bottom of the graphic reads, “Sound the alarm for Sudan”
🔴After three years of conflict, Sudan is facing unimaginable suffering.
Right now, millions of people are not receiving the emergency food assistance they urgently need, with delays and obstructions of aid deepening already catastrophic conditions.

Brilliant campaign. Get fossil fuels out of sports.
We grow enough food to feed the world — so why are 733 million people still going hungry? A new study co-authored by Project Drawdown scientists finds that more than half of global crop calories never reach a human plate, diverted instead to livestock feed and biofuels. 🌽
