Tate: Trump's Gordie Howe Bridge threat could unravel US-Canada ties, impact Detroit President Trump's remarks threatening to not open the Gordie Howe International Bridge could jeopardize the vital US-Canada alliance, impacting Metro Detroit's economy and jobs.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge isn't just symbolic; it supports thousands of Michigan jobs, a stronger supply chain and billions in trade. By holding it hostage, President Trump risks Michigan's economy and punishes hardworking Detroiters. Read my op-ed here:

The Rx Kids program, which has helped thousands of families across the state, is coming to Detroit! The health of a city starts with the health of our kids. This program will give our parents and babies the resources they need right from the start.

This is not the America we want for our kids. Elected officials around the country need to denounce the shocking tragedies taking place in Minnesota and do everything in our power to prevent it from happening again. Let’s stand together.

The CHASS Street Medicine Team is doing phenomenal work across Detroit, meeting unhoused patients where they are and providing them with medical care. I had the opportunity to join Dr. Bryce and his team yesterday morning during their mobile visits.

A graphic for Michigan State Representative Joe Tate on the food resources in the community. I list of resources include Forgotten Harvest a major food rescue organization in metro Detroit that collects surplus food and provides it to emergency food providers. They also offer food directly to the community through their Community Choice Market in Oak Park, which operates like a grocery store where people can choose their own no-cost groceries. Phone: +1 248-967-1500 Website: forgottenharvest.org; Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan: This organization provides millions of meals annually to people in need across southeastern Michigan. You can find their mobile food distribution schedule on their website. Phone: +1 866-453-2637 Website: gcfb.org; Focus: HOPE: This organization provides food and assistance, particularly for seniors and families with children. Their food distributions have been expanding to help families in and around Detroit. Phone: +1 313-494-4600 Website: focushope.edu; Capuchin Services Center: The center offers a "shoppers' choice" food pantry, allowing clients to select food like they would in a grocery store. They also provide clothing assistance and hot meals. Phone: +1 313-925-1370 Website: cskdetroit.org; and Cass Community Social Services: This organization provides free, nutritious meals with no eligibility requirements. Contact them for mealtimes and availability. Phone: +1 313-883-2277

Massive Michigan data center slated to power Oracle, OpenAI The development would be part of the "Stargate" artificial intelligence initiative by companies OpenAI and Oracle.

I’m excited to announce that this data center will create more than 450+ on-site jobs and 2,500 union construction jobs in Southeast Michigan, as a result of the legislation we passed to bring this technology to our state.

On Nov. 1, SNAP benefits will be paused due to the federal gov. shutdown. To help combat the increased need placed on local food banks, I'm introducing a food tax credit program for farmers, commercial grocers & processors who donate. Together, we can keep our neighbors fed.

A graphic with text centered over a dark green background that reads, “Disabled Women’s Equal Pay Day 2025 October 23” in white and pale green letters. Below is a single dollar bill torn in half, representing how disabled women are paid just over half of what nondisabled men are paid per year.

This year, disabled women are facing massive cuts to employment programs and services and even our ability to track those cuts is being blocked. When data disappears, so do stories. That’s why #DisabledWomensEqualPayDay matters more than ever.

On this day, we remember the lives lost on 9/11 and honor the bravery of all first responders who ran toward danger. Today, we also thank our local firefighters, EMTs and police officers who continue that legacy of service and sacrifice here at home.
