It demonstrates an horrendous level of hatred for a trans woman (who was cleared of all wrongdoing in a recent tribunal) because she is a trans woman.

Thanks! Having this story, with its undertones of homophobia and xenophobia, presented as the main news story of the day feels deeply uncomfortable to me. Maybe it just belongs in the Murdoch press rather than the BBC.

BBC News is going very hard on its investigation into advisers who help people ‘fake’ asylum claims, focusing especially on people who falsely claim to be gay. But it doesn’t say what percentage of claims are made on the basis of sexuality. As of 2023 — the last available figures — it was 3%.
