Alexander [Kraven] Ortiz (@kravenalxndr) on Threads On the topic of Olympics… London 2012 had the most AMAZING presentation of the Olympic Rings!! If you haven’t seen it, check out the incredible showmanship of the London2012 Opening Ceremonies 🇬🇧 @ol...

I'd kinda forgotten I was a part of Britain's last great cultural moment to the world. We haven't done anything as good since.

Brooklyn 99 - a great workplace comedy but set among cops - has regular shoot-outs. In a sitcom. Can't help thinking the same sitcom anywhere else in the world wouldn't have so many shoot-outs.

You'd have thought MPs are one group of people who are accustomed to public speaking off the cuff, not mindlessly reciting a speech.

I've noticed a lot of what I term Corporate ChatGPT speak in emails that I receive these days.

I mean, in a post-scarcity society, cake is still delicious as well as plentiful. But I s'pose you could beam away the fat etc.

But that is the problem with American TV (and increasingly, streaming TV). Fewer average-sized people on screen.

I've found a new all-you-can-eat dim sum and Chinese place near Oxford Circus.

This is my disappointed face as I realise that nobody I know would fancy it, *AND* my so-called nutrition plan (try to avoid things that are bad for you) doesn't really allow for it.

I'm not saying it's a crisis but I've been in two shops today and neither of them had the Radio Times Christmas special available. :(

3 Dec: Royal Mail leaves a parcel for someone else in the communal hallway. I email Royal Mail.

Today:

Royal Mail: "So what details do you have about the parcel?"
Me: "Well, it's been taken from our communal hallway!"
Royal Mail: "I'm very glad that all issues have now been resolved."

Poutine. From London

Poutine. From London

Me: I need to eat more healthily.

Also me: it was Poutine yesterday. Turkish today. Pub twice tomorrow. Pizza Saturday. Unlimited roast on Sunday.

I'm not very popular, normally.

There are many people I deal with who are very very knowledgeable in their field but constantly struggle at doing basic IT. like sharing a file. They honestly think this is a high level IT skill that only admins can do. Even though I've written guides etc. and demo'ed it for them.

A 1990s-themed bar

A 1990s-themed bar

A 1990s-themed bar in Covent Garden. Which is a bit like in 1995 going to a 1950s-themed bar.

Now if only they served Hooch or snakebites... (and I'm reasonably sure karaoke wasn't a thing in 1995)

The S.Express shop

The S.Express shop

Somehow still standing in the heart of Fitzrovia near the British Museum. Why has this not been replaced yet with some hideously expensive gleaming glass structure for rich shoppers?

The kids today call this #pebbling. Back then we'd call it " #clipping out bits of a magazine to save and maybe send onto friends" in the real world.

#timeout was awesome in the paper era.

My memory vs the Internet. A horrifying tale.

So I really have distinct memories of playing #sleepingdogs - a superlative open-world gangster/police game set in Hong Kong - in January 2011.

I remember the sofa I was sat on, where I was playing it... (1/2)

A screenshot from Google Maps showing the distance between the stations is a 4 minute walk

Probably not the day to suggest a change on the venerated London Transport / Underground map but ...

It's a short walk between Dalton Kingsland and Dalston Junction station. So why wouldn't there be a handy dotted line to show how you can walk (without rhythm) between them?

It is my considered opinion that the yuzu lemon Jaffa cakes, while an improvement on the traditional orange Jaffa cake, is no substitute for the S-tier that was the lemon/lime Jaffa cake. *Pours one out
