“David Wright didn't just take away Mariah, he took away a beautiful soul," added Dacaundra "JuJu" Willis, Mariah's friend. "He took away a mother from her two boys... He shattered a whole community of people."

On Monday, Samuels’ sister, Simone Hunter, said, “I would like to get up here and tell you how beautiful my sister was. I would like to tell you how uplifting and such a rare soul she truly was.”

When asked about claims from the Trump administration that ICE officers enjoy absolute immunity while on duty, Moriarty responded that “there is no such thing as absolute immunity for federal agents who violate the law in the state of Minnesota or any other state.”

Thank you @anacabrera.bsky.social for inviting me to talk about the felony assault charges we filed yesterday against an ICE agent.
When announcing the charges on Thursday, Moriarty said: "Our work continues on all fronts, from the killings of Ms Good and Mr Pretti, to the shooting of Mr Sosa-Celis, to the incidents being investigated by our Transparency and Accountability Project."
“Mr. Morgan’s conduct was extremely dangerous,” Moriarty said. “Driving while pointing a weapon out of your moving vehicle at the victims who were in another moving vehicle could have led to yet another disastrous incident.”
“Additionally he admitted that he drew his firearm after the victims’ vehicle had already rejoined the normal flow of traffic, corroborating details from interviews with the victim.”
“During the interview, Mr. Morgan admitted that he was driving the rented SUV and he and his partner were headed to the Whipple Building to end their shift,” Moriarty said.
“Driving while pointing a weapon out of your moving vehicle at the victims who are in another moving vehicle could have led to yet another disastrous incident in a community that has already suffered too many,” Ms. Moriarty told reporters.
At a news conference, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said that after the victims had returned to the legal traffic lane, Morgan, 35, pulled up to them on the shoulder, lowered his window, and aimed his service weapon into their vehicle.
Minnesota State Patrol was able to identify Morgan and interview him about the incident afterward at the Whipple Federal Building, which serves as the headquarters of ICE operations in the state.
Virtually none of the obstacles around evidence collection that exist for the January shootings exist in this case,” Moriarty said.
Today, the Hennepin County Attorney made history by announcing the first-ever criminal charge against an ICE agent for their actions during Operation Metro Surge.
An ICE agent who was part of the federal immigration surge in Minnesota earlier this year has been charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, a Minnesota prosecutor announces.
The agent is accused of pointing a gun at the heads of two civilians in a vehicle.
“We will not rest until we get the answers we seek about federal agent conduct across Hennepin County and accountability is delivered wherever appropriate.”
Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charges ICE agent with two counts of second-degree assault.
“He admitted that he drew his firearm after the victim’s vehicle had already rejoined the normal flow of traffic, corroborating details from interviews with the victim” as well as video of the incident, Moriarty said.
“Today's charges reflect an important milestone in our efforts to seek accountability for the harms inflicted on our community during Operation Metro Surge," Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said at a press conference on Thursday announcing the charges.
Today we charged an ICE agent with two felony counts of 2nd Degree Assault for pointing a gun at two community members during operation metro surge. Hear about the charges below.
Mariah Samuels was taken from her loved ones and her community last September in a horrific act of domestic violence. The man who killed her will spend the rest of his life in prison, which will not bring Mariah back. My heart is with Mariah’s loved ones.
David Eugene Wright, 51, was convicted Wednesday of first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree murder with past pattern of domestic abuse in the shooting of Mariah Samuels on Sept. 14, 2025.
