🎶 Tell me,
Why'd I have to lack a drink that's caffeinated?
Without Wake Up Juice, I feel so addle-pated... in the morning!
Now I stumble and spill and I slur
And can't read 'cause my vision's completely blurred.
Middle age leaves me discombobulated...
Whoa, no, no... 🎵

without context I'm just imagining a ballot measure that says "SAVE YOUR COUNTRY" and republicans angrily voting "NO"

It was originally straight to streaming, so I'm keeping expectations for visual effects in check. The CGI looks like a PS2 cutscene in HD like that Rescue Rangers movie a while back, but if the writing saves it, I'm all in. Just glad it's not buried. Wile E's always been a favorite.

Has there EVER been a behind the scenes featurette where someone said "But then the studio fixed the whole movie when they gave us notes!"

Wow, they must've gotten a pretty robust physics engine to pile that much garbage on a movable grate like that.

Also, what was your watercolor process for getting that starfield? I likes it!

I wish one of the universes he visited was one where we got a second season.

If I'd animated this shot, I wouldn't be alive today.

The "latest" version I am aware of is the Midway compilation on PS2/Xbox/GameCube. It's insanely unfair!

I used to feel melancholy watching old cartoons thinking "They don't make them like this anymore." Now I get to feel worse thinking "They don't make them anymore."

Every AI commercial is like "Hey AI, what goes good on a sandwich?" and then the AI is like "Have you considered... cheese?" And then the narrator is like: THE FUTURE IS HERE.

My wife and I have been brainstorming, and we both agree that Finn Wolfhard should host a reality show about interesting finds at yard and estate sales, and it should be called "Starangers' Things."

Some ambitious Democrat humor me and run for president just repeating just these simple ideas:
1) justice / prosecution / revenge against Trump + GOP
2) anti corruption across the board! connect to above
3) universal healthcare
4) universal human rights
4) no USA tax $ or weapons for genocide

the thing is that sometimes there are cases when the fans are actually right

and it’s still not a good idea to listen to them because then you start listening to them when they aren’t, which is most of the time

Can you imagine being told in screenwriting class that you have to have structure and logic and character and good dialog and then see what kills at the box office? It's almost as bad as journalism school.

Shit. I forgot. I took screenwriting classes at NYU. So I do know how stupid it all seems.

FoxTrot was the most mainstream display of geekery I remember in the comics. Relatable, and a great reminder to write what I know and like. My paper picked it up during the Cactus Flats storyline, and I still think "Cool! My shoes are melting!" during a heatwave.

Whenever I'm writing something in the realm of the absurd, I turn on the Clone High portion of my brain. Even when playing by "no" rules, there are still rules. Lord and Miller's current success seem to cement that I was objectively correct to have my early admiration.

Futurama had a great mix of fantastic affected by the mundane that still tickles me. Always admired the intelligence and the refusal (usually) to go for the easy joke. Only problem was having a male-only writers' room would get *tugs collar* NYYEHHH whenever framing stories around gender issues.

Writers, what influenced your style?

Daria again, sorry not sorry. You have no idea how inspiring that show was for me at the time. Smart, funny female leads in (young) adult cartoons is such a rarity. The first show that spoke to me enough that I still have some fanfiction floating out there. 🫣

A comic. Emma is wearing a hospital gown in a nondescript white space. A voice says, “you’re so pretty.” She responds with irritation, “me? you must not have noticed my many flaws i'm actually large and awkward and lumpy and sweaty and i-” She is cut off mid-sentence by a corrective electric shock. “no,” says the voice. “i like your comics,” the voice says. Emma, who is still recovering from the shock, says without thinking, “you are so full of—“ before catching herself and amending to, “nnnice words,” but she can’t stop herself from adding, “but i genuinely can’t see my work as anything but trash and it makes me thínk less of you for liking—” She is cut off again by a shock. “no,” says the voice. The voice says, “you’re a good mom.” “Tha—“ says Emma, starting to contradict, before gritting her teeth and saying, “—ank you. That’s kind of you to say.” She holds her forced smile but flinches, anticipating another shock. Instead, the voice says, “you’re good at your job.” Emma, frustrated, yells, “what???” She quickly tries to add “a sweet thing to say,” but is cut off again by another shock.

Would quotes around "sakuga" do anything to mitigate that? Or do you think the difference would be negligible?

Garfield and Friends was the earliest influence I consciously recognized as such as a kid. Still take a little bit of it for designing anthro animal characters.

Artists! Show what built your style!

Daria was some sort of epiphany for me about how to draw characters that were "real" but had appealing, simple designs. Clerks Animated came out around the same time, and influenced how I drew wardrobe of all things.

I want to be paid to tell a computer "Build me a website" and fuck off the rest of the day. Alas, I lack the skills necessary, such as incuriousness and wanting to own robot slaves.
