"Labour’s great green energy plan could be a legacy as vital as the NHS".
I agree. More power to Ed Miliband's elbow. Sod the haters in the rightwing press. They hate him because he's winning.

Don't be shy to take on a little two-week side project. These five months will be the most precious three years of your academic journey.

Hi this joke is for me
I’ve often used the big rental chains (europcar etc) and you just book on their website, can often collect from one dealership and drop off at another.
BUT they usually only let you specify the genre of car (e.g. mini-ish), so you’d probably want to call to confirm if you specifically want a mini
I was able to WFH, so my main memory is of continuing the unfun bits of my life but losing just about all of the things that I’d enjoy doing outside of work to balance it out. It was constantly both boring and depressing.
I liked the lack of road noise though. The birds seemed louder
VERY COOL PERSON: It's four-twenty, you know what that means?
ME: Hell yeah! [starts shoving blackbirds into a pie]

This seems to hint at some sort of CRISPR-use to me, strongly implying that the government are now gene-editing civil servants. What a time to be alive
I always think of how this “prepare to be offended” only works in one damn direction

My last hour: had an idea for yet another interesting new project, began coding it
Have you seen this page before? Makes me happy opening it and having a look: today we're at only 8% of our energy coming from fossil fuels!

This is a must-watch from the @bmj.com Medicine and Science podcast.
The BMJ recently investigated the public #Health impact of #WoodBurning, and exposed industry tactics to try to silence councils from raising awareness of the risks of burning. #AirPollution

In a quiet corner of Oxfordshire, a community-owned solar farm is generating enough power to supply 7,000 homes every day. We find out more, including plans to install a new battery for 24-hour renewable energy. oxfordclarion.uk/solar-power-...
Yes I take it off. I'd accomplish very little work while eating all that cake anyways
Life's generally too short to worry that doing a nice thing is 'childish'.

Putting this into first past the post is the representative democracy equivalent of throwing darts at a board to decide where you go on holiday. Unpredictable chaos.
The UK is, in factual terms, a multi-party democracy. We urgently need an electoral system that reflects this.
I saw my first one last Wednesday on Shetland! Love seeing their return
Editing this @sciam.bsky.social piece brought the six-year-old Pokémon trainer in me. Thanks @whysharksmatter.bsky.social for the nostalgia trip (and for allowing me to flex my Pokémon knowledge)! www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...
Wildlife trade drives animal-to-human pathogen transmission over 40 years
New in @science.org ‼️ In the most comprehensive study to date, we show that wildlife trade is driving animal-to-human zoonotic spillover at a planetary scale, with +1 spillover per host every 10 years. Live animal markets and illegal trade pose even greater risks. 🔓 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
I really truly cannot be bothered to provide context here but
Fuckin TERFs, man
Electricity dashboard, showing 5.8% fossil fuels, 77% renewables, 16.9% other sources, 4.2% interconnectors
It's a bit gusty out there, but on the plus side, the UK is currently running on 77% renewable electricity right now. 🎉🎉💨💨
Yay nature!
