PM announces new powers to boost fuel supply amid Middle East tensions The Albanese government will use public money to underwrite the delivery of extra cargoes of fuel in a bid to shore up supply during the Middle East conflict.

Maybe I'm being too cynical but if the the government halve the fuel excise would this be passed onto consumers at the bowser? www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

As a nonsense phrase of shady provenance makes the rounds, Elsevier defends its use The origin of the phrase? The phrase was so strange it would have stood out even to a non-scientist. Yet “vegetative electron microscopy” had already made it past reviewers and editors at several j…

I've definitely been guilty of a bit of vegetative electron microscopy, those late night elemental maps on an old LaB6 'scope definitely warranted a few naps between drift correction stage bumps. Not sure if I'd brag about them in the method section though. retractionwatch.com/2025/02/10/v...

My favourite view of the microscope 🔬, with it's pants off!! This is a JEOL F200 transmission electron microscope (TEM) and under the table you can see the CMOS camera made by Gatan which we use for imaging and 4D STEM!

Thanks Jamie! The energy spread is tied up in the "focal spread" variable for simplicity, but maybe V2 will expand that out and have more adjustable variables...

I've started the roll out of some interactive tools for electron microscopy on my website, the first of these to be released is an interactive Contrast Transfer Function plotter: rfwebster.net/tools/CTF useful for understanding the resolution and contrast in your HRTEM images!
