Good luck with your election today, Hungary! 🇭🇺 (And please don’t re-elect the fascist. 🙏)

If AI is so great, why does it always seem to be on the side of fascism? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
use Signal for your day to day stuff. Make your grocery list in it. Text your partne. Have a group chat about organising a surprise party.
Privacy should be an expectation in life.
Even for things which don’t need secrecy. When everyone normalises maintaining privacy it can’t be used against us.
Have found my new fav pizza in London - for take-away, anyway. Yard Sale Pizza opened near us. I walked over to collect, but they do delivery in-house (no delivery apps). Ordering and payment through the web – again, no app. And most importantly, the pizza is good! 🍕 yardsalepizza.com
🆕 blog! “How Can Governments Pay Open Source Maintainers?”
When I worked for the UK Government I was once asked if we could find a way to pay for all the Open Source Software we were using. It is a surprisingly hard problem and I want to talk about some of the issues we faced.
The UK […]
An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine

I filled out this UK Government consultation on the future of BBC. www.gov.uk/government/c... Some of my feedback: do continue the license fee, don't run ads, do be impartial, don't become a booster for AI, do support BBC Verify, don't engage in other "platforms" and do continue R&D and innovation.
Time vortex beginning today. Plan accordingly.
🚨 ID checks to get online could become the new norm 🚨
A new amendment would give the government sweeping powers to block access to lawful information and communications.
That's unless we submit our identification to a bounty of providers.
Tell your MP to stop this broad and repressive law ⬇️
The TAG group (10 people) on stage with a big slide behind them “wha are web standards” with some explanation.

A black poster announces a “Vigil for Renee Nicole Good and all victims of U.S. ICE violence,” with a small portrait photo centered near the top. Text lists the event details: Monday, January 12 at 6:30 pm at the U.S. Embassy, 33 Nine Elms Lane, London. A single lit candle appears near the bottom, alongside logos of organizing groups, reinforcing the vigil’s memorial tone.
Monday, Jan 12, at 6:30pm in London
A vigil will be held at the US Embassy, 33 Nine Elms Lane, London.
Wear black and bring an umbrella for a peaceful vigil.
Thank you to @ukstoptrump.bsky.social, Tesla Takedown, @indivisiblelondon.bsky.social, and @indivisibleabroad.bsky.social for organizing.
A graphic featuring a dimly lit photo of Nigel Farage in the House of Commons, wearing a dark suit and red tie. Over the image, a large headline reads “Farage’s Record Speaks for Itself.” Below it is a quotation criticising Farage’s long-standing use of far-right and antisemitic conspiracy theories. A small circular photo of Zack Polanski appears near the bottom with the text “Zack Polanski, Green Party Leader.” The Green Party logo is placed at the bottom of the graphic.
"We can judge Farage not just by the words he, allegedly, shouted as a child, but by the words and actions he has chosen as an adult."
Zack Polanski on why Farage should be judged on his record as a politician which has seen him echo conspiracy and language of the far right.
Happy Thanksgiving to all US persons! (Except the fascist ones!) ✨
The fact that social media trolls are often not who or where they appear to be is not news. This is well known. “Superman” even had a joke about it. Don’t engage. Block liberally.
For avoidance of doubt : I made it clear through my response that the UK should be making it *easier*, not more difficult, to achieve settled status, and that income-based measures for determining whether someone is worthy are regressive and classist.
I just filled out the UK Government's consultation on the proposed changes to settlement status (#immigration). If you live in the UK, I encourage you to do the same. Be warned: there is a lot of double-speak in this consultation. www.gov.uk/government/c...

I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.
Head and shoulders shot of me, on the Tube, with both US flag and UK / Euro heart pins on my fleece.
Ok heading down to the US embassy for No “Tyrants” London. 🇺🇸 #nokings

It goes without saying that London is not “under Sharia law.” However, the statement itself is (also obviously) a xenophobic dog whistle in the first place. To their credit, BBC did a good piece picking this apart www.bbc.com/news/article... and putting it in context.
Apropos of nothing....
