One of my favorite artists at the hotel takeover this weekend was Yuting Wang - especially her History and Unfathomable Play series.
Each component part is drawn and watercolored by hand, no stenciling - and the variations in each piece end up making something quite special:

60+ teams about to demo their Gemma 4 and Cactus Compute projects at @ycombinator.bsky.social this Sunday! π΅π
Everything from a voice-commanded podcast DJ with function calling, multimodal smart glasses, Codex and Claude Code narrators, and more β all operating 100% on device.
Massive line outside for today's Cactus Compute +DeepMind Gemma 4 voice agents hackathon at @ycombinator.bsky.social!
Tiny on-device models are the future, can't wait to see what people build. Also love the Cactus demo, showing Gemini APIs as a fallback for complex tasks.
me: i want to build an app but i am le tired
ai.dev/build: say less. just press tab.
not me building an entire dinosaur app for a 4-year-old via tab > tab > tab > app built. Google AI Studio is doing all the heavy lifting today and i love it π¦π
*wondering what Bowie would have thought about AI, which is way too serious of a question for the last two hours of a flight*
you can't just immediately vibe a rocketship with human cargo into lunar orbit
there's an irreplaceable kind of satisfaction from doing things that are hard, and take time
maybe we're all so energized and enchanted by Artemis because it's just so viscerally *real*, and inspiring, and unique, and took pain and time to accomplish
software, art, and content have been democratized so hard with AI that we accidentally created a world with 100% supply and 0% attention span
my side project budgets are basically $0, so the new gemini flex pricing in AI.dev is actually saving my life π
50% discount if you don't need instant responses! perfect for background agents, batch jobs, or evals while you sleep or go watch robot cage fights

Gemma 4 can run on phones without an internet connection! π€―π
It can perform local agentic tasks, like taking actions in apps + logging trends. And when connected to WiFi, it can also make API calls.
π² Want to try it? Get the Google AI Edge App on iOS or Android:

Demis Hassabis, co-founder & CEO of DeepMind, is coming to YC! π
> Fireside chat w/ Garry Tan
> Keynote from DeepMind researchers
> Talks & live demos from YC founders
> Meet DeepMind engineers 1:1
If you're building at the edge of AI, you should be there.

Bring Your Own Big Wheel this weekend was god-tier. π¦π²
"Einstein had to have some engineer in the auditorium explain an elementary law of mechanics to him, and said, βI never bother to remember anything I can look up.β
Mom loved that ideaβa genius who couldnβt open a can of tuna fish but could order the entire universe in the caverns of his own skull."
weekend plans: locking in and building something weird π
if you're looking for a side quest, gemma 4 just dropped in ai.dev! 31B dense or the 26B MoE are both available to call via the Gemini APIs: multimodal, 256k context, and exactly $0
wrote a quick guide belowπ

π perhaps my favorite swag of all time: black sweater with the @arxiv.bsky.social link to the Attention is All You Need paper
π At @berkeleyhaas.bsky.social @berkeleyskydeck.bsky.social Demo Day, learning more about this cohort's companies!
Everything from robotics, to plasma cooling, to early onset detection of strokes using commodity cameras and microphones.
πLearn more about the program here: skydeck.berkeley.edu
π Gemma 4 is finally here!!
Under-appreciated facts: now available via the ai.dev interface (including via the Gemini APIs). You can even couple with tool calls like Google Search grounding and multimodal inputs (images, video, audio!).
These little dudes pack a big punch! Try 'em out today:
WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE DANG MOON, FAM ππ¨βπ
π another quality of life improvement, and by popular wikimedian request: have added a "category" feature to @wikicommons.bsky.social app, so you can deep-dive into images related to a specific theme (ex: dogs)
JUST LOOK AT HIM! please appease his polite request for scritches and for metadata:
if this lunar launch is somehow just a very elaborate NASA april fool's joke, i am going to be SO riled up
extremely important dinosaur-related update π¦

NEW β¨: just shipped a field guide for the @wikicommons.bsky.social category suggester!
complete with keyboard shortcuts, verification, & FAQ that addresses what to do if you find a 19th-century lithograph of a pelican wearing a top hat
(you brag to the internet and then categorize it, obviously)
I *think* the app just got approved for folks to log in; would you mind trying again, if you have a spare moment today?
Also incorporated your feedback about design!

π½οΈ veo-3.1-lite-generate-preview is here!
Smaller, faster, cheaper and still all of the great video generation features from Veo 3.1 that you know and love (ex: background sound effects and audio).
Paid tier, per second:
$0.05 (720p)
$0.08 (1080p)
(4k not supported)
ai.google.dev/gemini-api/d...
This feedback is so good!! Please keep it coming π
I think the auth isn't working for multiple users yet because the app hasn't been blessed by Wikimedia / Wikicommons - will see if I can hunt down an admin!
anyway there are mass numbers of uncategorized images on commons and now you can help fix that in like 15 seconds per image!
π try it here: bit.ly/wikicommons-category-suggester
π
@wikimediafoundation.org @wikicommons.bsky.social has millions of uncategorized images! no metadata, no discoverability
so i built a tool that pulls them up one by one and suggests real categories! it's weirdly meditative, like tending a garden except the garden is all of human knowledge
the extent to which these dinosaurs are incorrectly labeled (and that many of the moulds are duplicated!! what is a lambe even!!!) is renting an intense amount of my skull space rn
Culver City book festival, completed with a poetry authoring and zine making station, at @wendemuseum.bsky.social. πβ¨
I've watched this like 5 times and cannot stop laughing (ft. Drake, Jeff Bezos, an anthropomorphic freeway, and Bart Simpson)
