Also, why are there more than 10 times the amount of “recreational boats” than marine industry jobs? Like, if you’re gonna throw numbers around, the jobs number shouldn’t appear so paltry in comparison.

But she was Edna May Oliver; she made it work.

Nice!

I haven’t read any of those, but I see a couple of them in my ever-growing TBR list.

Yeah, seconding the very Britishness of “he was sat.” Whether it’s common in, like, normal prose, I’ve no idea, but it’s definitely how people talk.

a woman with curly hair crosses her fingers Alt: A woman with curly hair (Jenny Hagel) crosses her index and middle fingers on both her hands while gently moving them back and forth. Her eyes are closed and the expression on her face (coupled with the fingers crossed action) gives the sense of fervently and seriously wishing for something.

I had to get a new car in January, and while I knew I wasn’t necessarily going to be able to get all of what I wanted, I was desperately trying to avoid cars in black or white — there are just SO MANY of them!

(I ended up finding a red car, so that’s something.)

Hmm… I am intrigued by this flavor combination and wish to try it For Science. (Too bad I am an ocean away.)

Honestly that sounds lovely.

Who knew that cleaning your stand fan for the first time in probably a year would result in strong, steady indoor breezes?

(Will the lesson stick with me *this* time, after at least 20 years of having stand fans by my bed? Signs, uh, point to no.)

(And, like, so far beyond the point, I know, but like…. Things are dire enough in the books, but not naming Padma and Parvati, just listing the characters together as “The Patel Twins”?)

What would you recommend for someone who had essentially that same meal for, like, at least half their meals this week?

a woman in a dress is standing in front of a microphone with her arms outstretched and says bless you all . Alt: A moment from the film Singin’ in the Rain. Wearing a silvery, spangly dress, Lina Lamont (played by Jean Hagan) is standing on stage behind an old timey round microphone, finishing up a speech by saying ‘Bless you all,’ complete with a showy, grand, and insincere gesture of her arms.

My brain filling in the blanks at the end of your post:

Yes, absolutely get the other books. All three books are in the ever-growing to-reread pile, as it’s been *checks Goodreads/Storygraph stats* nearly 14 years since I read them.

Oh, this is a great book! I’ve been considering a reread this year.

I didn't come here to make friends. Unless, of course, you want to be my friend. In which case nothing would bring me greater joy

I hate this generally, of course, but I hate this specifically for you two.

To this day I am still flummoxed by this. I don’t know that I’ve ever had that kind of split reaction to something.

I had such a weird experience with RoS. Walking out of the theater, I hated most every storytelling decision that was made, and yet…

…I had a good time watching the movie. I even saw it a second time in the theater, still hating the story with every fiber of my being but really enjoying the movie.

Washcloths like this are great for beginners. They’re pretty quick to make, they’re functional, and still work with errors in them! If you fear you’ll end up with too many, save the squares and sew them into a blanket later.

Scarves are good, but they can take forever to knit to a decent length.

Yeah, the adjustment time is usually hard.

That said, my sister has been letting one of the neighborhood ferals come in with her, and the other four cats have mostly tolerated him. I think the biggest fight was food-related.
