Big congrats to my undergrad student, Alethea Quick, who completed a senior honors thesis analyzing our US nationally representative data on orgasm coercion. 91.4% of participants had ever experienced some form of orgasm coercion & we didn’t really see sig differences by various identity groups. 🤯

A new study suggests that women start to devalue their own orgasms when they happen infrequently. This may be self-protective in the short term, but may ultimately widen the orgasm gap. www.psypost.org/new-psychology-research-...
It’s true: not all men use sexual force. But 95.1% of men in a recent, anonymous survey of men between the ages of 18 and 34 reported having recently used at least one strategy to get a woman to have sex who they knew did not want sex and had not consented. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
An Ohio man became the first person to be convicted under a 2025 federal law on revenge porn that also made publishing pornographic deepfakes a crime, federal prosecutors announced on Tuesday.
I’m also growing increasingly concerned about pre-prints - the theory & motivations behind them are well-intended, but I’ve already seen news sites (& now this suggests AI) report on pre-prints as though they are full-fledged scientific publications.
It’s upper-level content on intro-level topics (e.g., theories, anatomy, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, gender, porn, etc.). There is info on kink & poly but we were just talking about stepping it up in the 17th ed! So there is some but I would say it’s intro info for non-kink/poly practitioners.
Here we go! We are VERY excited to announce the publication of the 16th ed of Understanding Human Sexuality, by Janet Hyde & now also myself & the incredible @morgancjerald.bsky.social ! What an honor to participate in educating thousands of students about sexuality & to share in this legacy. 😍
Yes, exactly!!
Love this!! I have been thinking that it can be difficult to get participants to report on negative/problematic behaviors when they are currently in the relationship if they’re otherwise satisfied, bc the overall positive sentiment shapes how they see all the things!
New paper, out this week in PLOS One, suggests that most close relationship self-report measures are primarily capturing relationship quality 🧵

A positive development in the world of sex ed is that 5 states added a requirement to teach about sexual consent last year. However, that only brings the total number to 16. In 2026, the vast majority of states still don't require consent instruction. www.sexandpsychology.com/blog/2026/4/...
Just a little throwback to my early days in the feminist social neuroendocrinology lab! 🥰
“The tax code often assumes that economic resources within a household are shared equally and that caregiving has no independent economic value. Both assumptions obscure the realities of inequality and disproportionately disadvantage women.”

Best joke from last night.
New research suggests that the reason women tend to report less sexual desire than men may not be due to biological differences, but early negative sexual experiences that occur during an important developmental period. www.newsweek.com/sex-libido-gap-scientist...
New study analyzing fertility data and the volume of pronatalist media coverage finds the two are unrelated, suggesting “pronatalist media discourse selectively deploys demographic evidence in order to operate as an ideological regime of truth.”

New work with @zenamello.bsky.social -- using the person-centered approach, we found that social class discrimination, particularly discrimination that occurs in school negatively relates to academic outcomes. Classism from teachers was most common onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

Proud advisor moment after watching @abbie-clapp.bsky.social’s great presentation on our new BOP Scale!! We found that aspects of the BOP scale predicted things like lower desire & more sexual coercion experiences four months later in women partnered with men!
Congrats to our two “best data blitz” winners at the sexuality pre-conference! Grace Wetzel presented on adapting scripts to facilitate women’s orgasms and Carly Wolfer presented on an intervention for women’s sexual pleasure!

Love this way of promoting your lab’s work! Very cool!
Other countries have social safety nets. The US has women. Women whose paid and unpaid labor are toggled up or down depending on the whims of the men who engineered and profiteered our DIY society.
