If you're looking for a nice way to make quick placeholder art, my favorite method is to take public domain images (or my boyfriend), posterize them in Photoshop, and then change the color mode to index with a color palette from lospec

you start making a game on a whim in your living room and a couple of years later the vinyl soundtrack is sitting on display in a Japanese record store. crazy
6th out of 200 for graphics! This is a trend for game jams that I tend to focus more on the art side rather than the gameplay, mostly because I'm learning how to program.
My next jams I'm going to focus more on gameplay (hopefully) lol.
