The Canary Islands enveloped in dust as waves and vortices swirl off of them.
A fascinating, complex view.
The Apple II played a big role role in me being in the software industry today, despite it coming out over a decade before I was born. My best friend I were required to use software running on Apple IIs in 2007 (!) in health class and decided we should see if we could rewrite it. The rest is history
According to METAR obs, temps as National Airport dropped 14°F in 7 minutes as the front passed, from 61 to 47!
The whole complaint is worth reading, as there is some truly damning stuff in here. Although perhaps nothing more damning than this: NSF's Nick Anderson telling a large group that the responses to the 'Dear Colleague Letter' would 'not be meaningful to OMB'
Thundersnow showing up in the Alleghenies this evening as this dynamic system continues to move up the East Coast! #pawx
Time for everybody’s favorite game of “Find that Cold Front!”
Just in: UCAR has filed a lawsuit against NSF, the Commerce Dept, NOAA, and OMB to prevent the dismantling of NCAR, alleging "violations of the Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act."

The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is a much bigger shock for global oil markets than Russia's invasion of Ukraine. That wasn't priced a week ago, but it's priced now. Brent is now up 44% from before war with Iran versus 14% on a similar timeline in 2022.

Bad Bunny's halftime show was regular, everyday people having a great time. English or not, the message feels loud and clear. Merely depicting people as having normal, relatable lives feels radical.
bad bunny already has more yards than the patriots
Bad Bunny isn’t my favorite music but that production value was 💯
Weather nerds are having a good #SuperBowl - “haboob” mentioned followed by a wind vector overlay
@adage.com do you know what the last time (if any) that two songs in the same Super Bowl used the same song?
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Before the 1990s, plane crashes caused by microbursts used to kill planeloads of people fairly regularly.
Dr. Ted Fujita and NCAR scientists figured out how to detect microbursts and warn pilots about them.
Since then? Zero airliner crashes from microbursts.

“Evan Royster has held the record for a decade and a half.” Thank you for reminding me I’m old Todd Blackledge #PennState
Feels like “WTH?” would have been a more appropriate annotation here - “Where’s the H?” 🤣
Officially official.
Coal's decline is primarily due to expanded production of natural gas, which is cheaper and cleaner, beating coal on the market.
The other main factor in the decline of coal jobs is automation, as the dwindling industry relies more on mountaintop removal.
This is cultural nostalgia, not economics.
It’s not that Penn State should be better than this. It’s that Penn State, over the course of the last near-decade, has only been this.
