The most cost effective system would be one with an even bigger monopoly: single payer.

My county in my state just banned poll workers (like myself) from participating in prediction markets on questions of the outcome of the election. It's a good policy. buckscountybeacon.com/2026/04/dela...
Ok, plan B: the Democrats wait until the first nominations are 75% of the way through, then go public saying that instead we should have Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr in those seats. Hopefully the prez would self-destruct enough to withdraw the nominations.
If that were to happen, the Democratic Senators should flee the country and deny a quorum.
Not ALL of us are Neanderthal hybrids. Most people with African ancestry have much less (although still not zero). www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...
He and I remained friends and after he moved to a different company we kept in touch. I did manage to move to an architect role and did that for many years.
I wonder sometimes if I handled it the right way. At least I know that is my "style" for handling conflicts.
What happened after? Well I could have broken off all friendship with this person, but I decided instead to pretend I had never found out it was him. I worked for years on trying to improve how I came across in terms of listening to others (still not perfect).
Eventually I discovered that a particular person on the architecture team -- someone I was friends with -- had been strongly objecting to my getting that role. He thought I would be unwilling to listen to others and wouldn't be a good fit.
I'll leave the names out. I was working at a job in one role (tech lead) and I wanted to move to a different role (architect). I applied a few times and kept getting turned down for a year or two.
Now I want Pope Leo to put out a statement about how Trump is "weak on the sacraments".

PS: not really. The strategy of not engaging is actually best.
Or... (hear me out on this one) maybe in Trump's head he IS God and effectively wants to start a new religion based on the worship of himself. If so, he already has quite a few congregants.
In April of 2026, Secretary of Health RFK Jr canceled $500 million of research grants on mRNA and announced that no future grants would support any mRNA work.
It was tested and released to the public less than a year after they began. mRNA is safe and effective, and since then is in use for a variety of things such as a very promising treatment for pancreatic cancer.
In late 2029 the world was hit with a global pandemic. Creating a vaccine typically takes several years. In January 2020, scientists tried using mRNA to create a vaccine -- it uses the body to produce the antigen to train the immune system. By March (2 months later!) they had a working vaccine.

Tit-for-tat firings is how we got the era of the political machines. Instead, give them all a test on immigration law to separate out the competent from the incompetent.
What I want is not revenge, but to ensure it can never happen again. We need constitutional amendments preventing a president from taking unchecked power. Nothing short of that will protect the future because the next would-be dictator of the US won't be as stupid as Trump.
That a demented old man occupying the Presidency might lose his marbles and begin ordering the military to start a war and commit war crimes WAS a failure mode that was accounted for in the Constitution. That his full cabinet and majorities of both houses of Congress would support it is not.
I hope someone receiving such a takedown request responds by pointing out that the work of an AI is inherently NOT protected by copyright. [Thaler v. Perlmutter]
Difficult to believe, but it *is* real. The quality of the NY Times has fallen so much it is cruising based on its historic reputation (and the fact that it makes more money from online word games than news readers).
I heard he also wrote an executive order commanding the tide not to rise.
But maybe I'm getting him confused with a more sensible King.
I can't really be embarrassed about it, I am too busy worrying about whether we will even survive.
I wish it were that simple. In your "pretty clear" interpretation, does it say that Native Americans are citizens at birth? Because Supreme Court precedent says no, the 14th DOESN'T apply to them. The court CAN (and has) reach a racist interpretation if they choose to.
They are FOCUSING on solar and wind... why just this week they spent $1 billion bribing TotalEnergies *not* to build a wind farm they were going to build.
10,000% is way over 100%, meaning your claim is that for every time you ask "Does Trump even understand?" there are 100 times when he doesn't understand.
Ok, yep: the math checks out.
Maybe we could take a break from the unnecessary war for just one or 2 days and dedicate those funds to the people in the US who desperately need it. Is THAT too much to ask? Trump and his sycophants seem to think so, they've cut vital programs costing "only" $1B.
Step 4 is incorrect: in some cases the stupid decision is reversed; in many others it is not.
Good advice... unlike whatever they're doing, that might actually *work*.
Almost everywhere, there is one notable advantage to voting in person on Election Day: assuming you actually cast your vote, it is physically impossible for anyone (no matter how corrupt) to single out your ballot to exclude it or see how you voted.
Yes, all of us are learning together as we are rapidly thrust into a new world of software development.
