We’re fundraising to build everything we need to operate without Bluesky. Our €100,000 target will accelerate our goal of building a European app backend (Appview) and a microblogging app.

Since last night over 282 of you contributed more than €5,000.

Let's do this!

I find it strange sometimes when people are on a platform and use the platform but continue to fight the platform.

You - could - just - leave and delete your account. No one is forcing you to be here 🤷‍♂️

This is a hard part but I found that once you get them over the fear of using AI or being branded a Vibe Coder they accelerate faster.

Vibe coding to me is a derogatory term and it belittles the effort that goes into building something that can run.

As long as it is useful to you and solves that problem then 🤷‍♂️

I can’t remember who but someone said that at some stage there will be a time when those that tried to build will have the advantage over those that fought it. 3/3

And now are no longer the gate. Anyone can truly build something they can think up.
And yes many will find it hard to run their creations but tooling is improving every day that removes this concern.

Building tools to solve daily problems for you is the key part here. 2/3

I think there are many engineers and other fields that have taken a sip of the anti coding assistant flow and now have closed their minds to the fact that good things can be built with a basic logical mindset.

There are also many entitled SWEs who used to be the gateway to something useful 1/3

I sincerely hope that a user does not their identity stolen because they made their LinkedIn data public.
Saying I warned you when they have multiple maxed out credit cards in their name that they did not order. Is not a defence in my opinion.

Mine is not live yet 🙂 because private data does not exist yet on the protocol.
And when the private data is built into the at protocol then it is protected and can be used with consent on sites that need that data.
It won’t be public, only shared with contacts that you trust with your data

Initially don’t allow them to upload their LinkedIn export.
It contains PII that should not be shared.
I looked as mine also imports the data

In the current world we live in, data security is if the utmost importance

4 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

Everyone who is building on the ATProtocol has the responsibility to make sure their users don’t expose themselves to bad actors when using your app.

They will blindly trust that you are keeping their data secure and just sign up and upload data.

Please please please think of their safety

Exactly and I love the idea and how you have done it.

People are going to shoot themselves in the foot here because they trust you with their data

I forgot to add that once you add your data the data brokers who normally have to buy your data from LinkedIn get it for free.
So expect so much more spam and calls from imposters.

I can’t stress this enough folks.
If you value your privacy

Don’t do this !!!!

And I wish we had edit options

I have been working on a product as well but decided to wait until we had private data built into the protocol before launching.

Take heed folks this is a dangerous to do.

I know wveryone is really wxcited about @sifa.id at the moment, but i want you to PLEASE understand that if you import your data to that service it is publicly available and it will open you up to identity theft.
people will copy your data and use it to open other accounts.

When I joined LinkedIn, I used to say it was Facebook for business. Now it's just Facebook.

Blocking is a thing and you can tailor your feed the way you want using the current feed mechsnisim.

I am tired of the same "linkedin hack" style posts over and over again

1 month ago 0 0 0 0

Similar to linkedin where you have a business network taht you interact with using the same mechanisims that bluesky has for messages and posting. Using leaflet for example to post long posts etc.. so integrating with what already esists but allowing you to decide who to keep in your comments.

True the business model would need to be carefuly thought through.
I was thinking of attaching a job portal to the same codebase but allowing businesses to signup and pitch to you :-).
and when you apply your data is properly inserted into the application

I currently have linkedin profile import and stub connection linking so when a connection also migrates you are already linked.

Full transparency: it would need to be a paid service.
No ads. No selling your data. Just a sustainable subscription that keeps the lights on and your data yours.

Worth it? Is free a hard requirement? or am I wasting my time?

Asked this on Mastodon, asking here too...
Would you use a LinkedIn alternative built on AT Protocol?
I have a side project that's been living in my head for a while, and it has been half done for a while. Waiting for private data on the pds.
