Case 3: Virginia Democratic
Primary
We found a candidate for the Democratic Primary for Virginia's U.S. Senate election who traded in two markets related to his campaign. The first was a market on individuals who would run for public office in 2026. This person placed a trade on himself in this market. Then, once the trader announced himself as a candidate for the Democratic Primary election for Virginia U.S.
Senate, he again traded on his own candidacy.
Kalshi surveillance and enforcement teams conducted an investigation and determined both trades violated our rules. We confirmed the identity of the trader using internal information and open source intelligence. We contacted the trader, who initially acknowledged being a candidate and violating the rules, but later stopped all communication with our team and did not comply with requests to respond or settle the matter. We fined him $6,229.30 and gave him a 5-year
The Virginia case is actually more wild, someone appears to have bet money they would enter the race, then entered the race

you ever think about how vancouver has been a model for decades on sports arenas integrated into downtown and rapid transit and didn’t involve public subsidies to private owners
and how that legacy is a giant question mark going forward
i mean yes i think about it too much BUT STILL

The City of Vancouver has just announced they had a $530 million surplus last year.
It follows a $860 million surplus the year before, and years of $300+ surpluses.
It's the annual reminder that when local politicians say times are tough, they're usually being misleading to suit their agendas.

honestly i do think it makes sense for you and your spouse to have an agreement where you're not going to do extreme sports like skydiving because of your obligation to your young children. not sure that's what's going on there but just for the record

If there is an off-ramp from the deadline there’ll be people saying he wasn’t threatening nuclear strikes but Jesus god why is anyone okay with indiscriminate murder? What’s being revealed hourly now is a deep, deep sickness and rot in America that cannot go unaddressed any longer.

[The Apollo 11 plaque] reads: "We came in peace for all Mankind." As the United States was dropping 7 ½ megatons of conventional explosives on small nations in Southeast Asia, we congratulated ourselves on our humanity. We would harm no one on a lifeless rock. - Carl Sagan
