Hey, since we're making up nonsense about paracetamol, did you also know that it increases risk of being taken up in The Rapture, so there's a dilemma for some people now.

On not being paternalistic ...maybe thinking of ourselves as being maternalistic acknowledges existing authority, and allows us to aim for our patients to thrive, to be in control of their destinies, guided by caring, wise prof

I wrote about not being paternalistic as a doctor, for the @bjgp.bsky.social, and wondered if we might be maternalistic instead.

@timsenior.bsky.social asked the question in 2012 [which I confess I overlooked at the time] :
How can music be used in med ed ? - or something similar

Great question - and here's a starter :
Peter Grimes and child protection [and much else besides]

Any other thoughts out there?

In a world where GP is bashed, a lot, @timsenior.bsky.social finds the value bjgp.org/content/75/7...

This line in particular got me: The consultations I have had with these patients aren’t consultations of 15 or 30 minutes. They are consultations of 2, 5, 10 years, split up into 15-minute chunks.

Private equity-backed GP chain a winner from Labor health spending The BGH Capital-owned medical centre operator ForHealth has been a big beneficiary of the government’s increased spending on Medicare and urgent care clinics.

Wow. Curious to hear what GPs and patients think about this?👇🏾

Timely call to act on child poverty. Dr Louis Peachey: "We are more frightened that we may give a benefit to a parent we consider undeserving than the consequences of letting their child grow up in poverty. Child poverty shames and diminishes us all."

Things that *should* be a big issue in the Australian election but sadly won't be:
- Climate change (even though our election was delayed by massive floods)
- Indigenous rights
- Inequality
- Poverty
- Our treatment of asylum seekers
- {NEW!} Our relationship with the US

Hello new followers.
It's a while since I've posted. But we have an election coming up in Australia (yeah, rmember them America?).
Health is going to be a big issue in the election - well, how much people pay to see a GP is going to be a big issue in the election - so I'll try to post a bit more.

Picture of Tony Benn with a quote of his from 2005:
"Ask the powerful 5 questions:
What power have you got?
Where did you get it from?
In whose interests do you exercise it?
To whom are you accountable?
How can we get rid of you?
Only democracy gives us that right. That is why no-one with power likes democracy and that is why every generation must struggle to win it and keep it; including you and me, here and now."
