1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

Feels important to uplift Rep Pressley's leadership. She puts in a lot of work on issues that others often don't see as a priority. I've appreciated her anti-criminalization work over the years. She's a worker.
That's how I remember it (I grew up in Seattle in the 80s and 90s).
This was a great conversation. Highly recommend the book.
Bothell WA? Totally.
this is a microcosm of the world as conservatives want it, where “merit” means an unrestricted good ol’ boys club
I didn't get a picture but I always find the TRENTON MAKES, THE WORLD TAKES sign pleasing. It's right up there with SEPTA, WE'RE GETTING THERE as a kind of grouchy anti-advertisement.
(I don't know if either of these was intended to SOUND bitter/snarky, but that's sure how they come across.)
POPULIST support, not popular support. That's something different!
ah you're right! was typing quickly before a student came for office hours. Bah.
Cover of the book: Insecurity Politics: How Unstable Lives Lead to Populist Support.
I'll be at NYC's Institute for Public Knowledge tomorrow night in conversation with Lorenza Antonucci (& Sheri Berman). We'll be talking about Antonucci's new book, Insecurity Politics: How Unstable Lives Lead to Popular Support. Come out if you can - RSVP

I know the guy being interviewed likely is awful to people he perceives as lesser, and I'm not excusing any bad behavior.
But mostly this clip just makes me feel bad for the guy. He's clearly been sold a line of BS and for whatever reason he's believed it and he just seems so ... young and small.
If you're in or near NYC on Wednesday night - come on out to this event. I'm a commentator, but the main event will be hearing Lorenza Antonucci talk about this great book.

Earlier this month in Georgia two pieces of transphobic legislation — HB54, a bill completing a ban in trans youth care and SB74, a draconian book ban — both went down in defeat.
This is a real victory, so a 🧵 from @transnews.network, with some more on how it happened, and some lessons...
Underappreciated issue with creating conservative affirmation action "civics" centers and filling them with hires selected on a political basis is the lack of student demand www.ms.now/opinion/iowa...
(and I say this as someone sincerely concerned about viewpoint diversity in elite higher ed)
Cover drop and I'm in love

🚨 NSF is already quietly eliminating the SBE Directorate, despite Congress’ mandate that NSF support the behavioral & social sciences.
Steps to counter this are in motion.
If you
- have an SBE proposal under review
- serve on an SBE grant panel

WINNER Clay Fuller, a Republican, wins the 14th District special election in Georgia. Race called by The Associated Press. if this something like this margin holds up it will be one of the largest special election swings toward the democratic candidate since the 2024 results (r+29) we've seen, though obviously not enough in this deep red district
Looks like the R won ~56% to ~44%, in a district that Trump won 68-31. That's a pretty big swing to Dems even though it's not a win.
Thank you!
Since his first term as president, I have long supported removing Donald Trump from office.
This latest deranged episode is another in a long line of reasons of why he is unfit for any public office. Whether by impeachment or the 25th Amendment, Donald Trump needs to go.

If you're in New York City tonight and feel helpless in the face of the violent genocidal maniacs that run our country — show up. it's better than doomscrolling alone.
It's not just Iran whose surrender is being demanded. It's yours. Your hope. Your belief in yourself and our collective potential. Your empathy. They want to crush those things. They want you to believe their will is inevitable.
They want you to surrender.
Philly I thought I saw something about a peace/impeachment rally tonight, anyone know anything?
This is good but also calling for 25th amendment/impeachment would be better.
Hey @repdwightevans.bsky.social staff - when I called today I was told Rep. Evans agrees that Trump needs to go but I don't see his name on this list - can you get him to make a public statement?
One House Republican pushes back on Trump's Iran threat today — Rep. Rep. Nathaniel Moran of Texas: "I do not support the destruction of a 'whole civilization.' That is not who we are, and it is not consistent with the principles that have long guided America."
It’s okay to be outraged and scared and tired and admit we don’t know what to politically do... and to still try to do something.
It’s helpful for me to remember that a lot of discourse boils down to I’m really struggling or afraid or angry and don’t politically know what to do to stop it but I won’t just say that.
BREAKING: Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna calls for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove President Trump from office.
