Imani and Pippin are confirmed present at Montrose today along with an unbanded female. Same little lady as Tuesday? Without bands, we can't confirm.

Yes! π€π’
The unbanded plover has moved on. While she (yes, SHE!) likely knew how much excitement she caused amongst the boys, little did she know how much excitement she generated amongst her human admirers.

It's raining plovers! Hallelujah!
Our thanks to Austin St. Peter for notifying us that a 3rd Piping Plover visited Montrose today and for sharing a stunning series of pictures. Our new plover appears to be unbanded, and if so, they are likely from the threatened population of Great Plains PIPL. 1/2

π’ Pippin departed Montrose in 2025 with an entanglement around his foot. We had authorization from USFWS to net him and remove the artificial fiber but, unfortunately, our attempts to net him before he departed on migration were unsuccessful. This entanglement resulted in Pippin losing his foot.

The name honors the historic Zippin Pippin roller coaster at Bay Beach Amusement Park, which is visible from Cat Island's nesting site. The name also carries a bonus connection, sharing a phonetic link with Scottie Pippen of Chicago Bulls fame.

π’ Briefly referred to as "Green Dot," based on the brood dot on his leg band, over Memorial Day weekend 2024, the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park hosted a naming contest in which over 160 zoo guests voted, and "Pippin" emerged as the winning name.
