If you ever done an MRI you know about all the weird sounds it makes. Well, weird no more!
There's a sequence (MRF-Music) that makes the sounds you hear during an MRI to play at the beat of any song you want. This will make the exam much more tolerable and confortable

I actually don't hate this visualization. There are two takeaways: (1) how far away is the red line from the dashed x=y and (2) how good is the fit of the points to the red line anyway?
Agreed that the dashed line is low contrast and so if you don't look carefully you'll miss point 1...
Graph of maternal mortality rate against year for the UK. Rate bounces until and down around 500 deaths per 100,000 births until about 1940, when it falls sharply. It’s been very low (~1–3 per 100,000) ever since.
This graph is astonishing. The people that bang on about “natural birth” and “women have been doing this forever without help” need to be forced to stare at this until their eyes water.

Can the #HHS agencies continue to function, given the deep cuts to administrative staff in the recent layoffs? Employees of these agencies are expressing deep fears that so much of the scaffolding is gone that the edifices could crumble. www.statnews.com/2025/04/11/h...
I think this opinion piece also demonstrates what arguments are likely to be the most convincing to your representative, if they are a Republican
Using data on more than 220,000 individuals on Lyft, researchers report in Science that drivers of color are significantly more likely to receive speeding tickets than white drivers, and to face steeper fines, even when traveling at identical speeds. scim.ag/3QYTjOO
Thrilled to announce that I've joined @kimia-tx.bsky.social as chief technology officer. Kimia's one-of-a-kind chemistry platform is an incredible data engine for building foundation models of chemistry and applying them to dramatically accelerate exploration of small molecule space.

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.
Today, Dr. Jan-Karl Burkhardt, MD, MBA, Division Head of Cerebrovascular Surgery at University of Pennsylvania, shared Phase 2 data for REC-994 -- the 1st industry initiated trial in #CCM - in a late-breaking oral presentation at the International Stroke Conference. ir.recursion.com/news-release...
Sometimes the experimental control is messed up – but in a really interesting way! – and it's a great 'night science' trick to make a discovery by recognizing it when it happens.
Well, it's not done up in Millennial Gray, I'll give it that.
I have a new blog devoted to medicinal chemistry in which I will mainly focus on classic papers.

A very troubling incident occurred some years ago and I think the concerns and lessons are important.
My apologies for the length, but it is a complicated story.
So-called binder proteins (right), designed by AI, protected cells and mice from lethal doses of 3-finger toxins better than the antibodies used in conventional antivenom (left). Timothy Jenkins
Small AI-designed proteins neutralized one of cobras' nastiest venom toxins. The findings raise the question: Could AI bring antivenoms into the 21st century? That and more of the best from @science.org and science in this edition of #ScienceAdviser: www.science.org/content/arti... 🧪

🔹 Using our AI platform, REC-3565 was designed as a highly selective MALT1 inhibitor that could mitigate potential risks of drug-drug interaction/hyperbilirubinaemia, enhancing its potential in combination therapies. There are ~41k R/R patients w/ CLL & B-cell lymphomas in the US & EU5 annually. 🧵
🔹 Designed & optimized using AI & active learning, REC-4539 is the first reversible LSD1 inhibitor that not only targets peripheral disease but is also designed to penetrate the brain, addressing a critical unmet need. There are ~45k patients with extensive stage SCLC in the US & EU5 annually. 🧵
📣 Big news ahead of JPM: 2 of our key investigational oncology drugs have received regulatory approval to advance to clinical trials: REC-4539 – potential best-in-class LSD1 inhibitor for SCLC & other indications & REC-3565 – a potential best-in-class MALT1 inhibitor for B-cell malignancies. 🧵

Why can a human tolerate a drug that globally inhibits transcription? Why do transcription inhibitors not cure cancer? Our first paper of 2025 may help explain (some) of this!
So incredibly proud of @tobiaswilliams.bsky.social & Ewa Michalak who led the work!
