News: Anthropic Removes Claude Code From $20-A-Month "Pro" Subscription Plan
For New Users (Developing)
ED ZITRON / APR 21, 2026 / 2 MIN READ
Executive Summary:
• Anthropic appears to have removed access to Claude Code for its $20-a-month "Pro" Plans.
• Current Pro users appear to still have access via the Claude web app.
• Claude Code support documents exclusively refer to accessing Claude Code
via "your Max Plan," after previously saying you could access "with your Pro or Max Plan."
In developing news, Anthropic appears to have removed access to Al coding tool Claude Code from its $20-a-month "Pro" accounts. This is likely another cost-cutting move that follows a recent change (per The Information) that forced enterprise users to pay on a per-million-token based rate rather than having rate limits that were, based on researchers' findings, often much higher than the cost of the subscription.

Similar story was told to me about Skid Row in Los Angeles. The LAPD would arrest homeless folks all over the city on minor infractions (unpaid Jay walking being a major one) and then release them outside two towers. They would just end up in skid row and the number of people there accumulated.

Monterey Park becomes the first city in California to ban "all data centers within city limits" Residents of the small enclave east of LA not only killed their city's proposed 250,000 square foot data center, they pushed city council to ban them altogether

Last night, after an hours-long public hearing, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass an ordinance permanently banning data centers.

The city council voted unanimously to declare data centers a public nuisance, and to "prohibit all data centers within city limits."

My story:

agreed!

Also they have a place called little skewers which is really fun.

I can help! I’m mostly a backend systems engineer but could try to help answer questions and help you get set up. I also know some folks that have more frontend experience for actually building that part too.

It doesn't matter if the Phillies stink right now so long as the Mets stink more.

Props to @bcmerchant.bsky.social to bringing this story to me.

I live very close to here and have seen the lawn signs while going on my runs.

And good for Monterey Park for standing up and doing something about it.

Monterey Park, CA

A city full of ordinance mandated parking lots but now an ordinance mandated city free of data centers.

Damn Netflix.

Sending me an email saying you're "updating" my price but not including what my current price is?

Wtf?

As someone with a BS in microbiology, the current right-wing “alpha” posturing over disease makes my absolutely livid.

I have no joke for this.

Just pure anger.

Maybe if they’re all stuck on boat together outside the strait they won’t remember to vote.

You know when you listen to a podcast and they are talking about someone awful but you’ve never seen a picture of them?

Well, why does it always turn out to be a shaved bald white man?

This AI Tool Rips Off Open Source Software Without Violating Copyright Malus, which is a piece of satire but also fully functional, performs a "clean room" clone of open source software, meaning users could then sell software without crediting the original developers.

This site uses "AI clean rooms" to bypass copyright to "liberate" open source projects of the need to credit or support open source projects. It's satire, but it also works and is something that the open source community is already dealing with: www.404media.co/this-ai-tool...

I still am amazed that Our Revolution is endorsing a billionaire.

Jaw dropping stuff going on.

Anyhow, I think it’s something to think about and try to appreciate how little “whiteness” brings as a cultural identity by itself.

It’s other parts of our lives and identities that bring us joy. It’s not whiteness that does it.

Like, I’m Irish catholic by culture and family. That gives me an identity and a way to view the world through which joy comes.

Contrast with Black American culture, which had its ties to African cultures erased. It is an ethnicity now and a culture that gives identity.

Nothing, I do think I understand what she’s saying though.

I think it has to do with “whiteness” not really being an ethnicity or culture to itself. The concept of whiteness is not about joy, it’s about hierarchy.

But white folk have other cultures and ethnicities to learn joy from.
