Texas can require public schools to display Ten Commandments in classrooms, court rules A U.S. appeals court says Texas can require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms.

So you’re telling me, if only Donald Trump had had the Ten Commandments displayed in *his* elementary school, none of us would be in this mess?

It's just fascinating to me how the Bluesky team keeps taking active steps to look bad. They don't just randomly step on rakes. They go into the shed, lift the rake off where it's hanging on the wall, carefully place it on the grass, and then step full force on that motherfucker.

Aside from who started it, states like CA and VA putting a counter-gerrymander up to a referendum, where people are told and can make a decision on the context for why it's being done, has vastly more democratic legitimacy than state legislators rushing it through because they got bullied by POTUS.

As Democratic leaders cling to centrism, labor, tenant and socialist movements are building power outside the party machinery.

@milesklassin.bsky.social on the rupture taking shape on the Left.

Listen, they are building concentration camps and threatening genocide against a country of 90 million people. There is not a single remotely legal tactic that is impermissible when it comes to stopping them.

Alternatively, a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political *left* has agency.

flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing “where the left went wrong” and i’m struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.

Southern Poverty Law Center indicted on federal fraud charges related to past use of paid informants The Southern Poverty Law Center has been indicted on federal fraud charges related to its past use of paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups.

The apparent theory here--SPLC was defrauding donors by paying right-wing extremist org informants, and also took completely legal steps for obscuring the money trail for very obvious reasons on this totally legal thing to do--is ludicrous even by the notoriously malleable standard for wire fraud.

Infiltrating hate groups with informants is something that goes way back to the civil rights era and before. It's never been something only the government can do, especially when the government is more likely to be showing up for the white power happy hour every third Thursday at Chili's.

This is the perfect distillation of what the MAHA movement is all about

We saw it with that kooky piece that MAHA leader Jay Bhattacharya wrote on US pandemic preparedness—his plan is to do nil other than “urge” individuals to get healthy so that at least the healthy may survive the next outbreak
