Despite a new fare hike and the fact that 1 in 5 riders struggle to afford the fare, the preliminary budget seem to exclude expansion of the Fair Fares program.

Setting Fair Fares eligibility to at least 300% of the federal poverty level would allow a household of 4 earning up to $96,450 to qualify for half-price subway fare. And by eliminating fares for those who currently qualify, Fair Fares can offer us true universal access to affordable transit!
There's no challenge bigger than the resolve and imagination of New Yorkers. That's why we believe making buses free for every rider as part of @NYCMayor's ambitious affordability agenda is more than achievable βΒ we can exceed it!
How? Bringing free/half-price subway rides to 2 million New Yorkers.
