Solar lots even, especially in hot climates, increase the fuel efficiency of cars parked in them. I love solar lots.

Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.

There are some important things to remember in terms of Awards-shortlist day etiquette. A short thread.

Even folks I really like and respect make some blunders on this stuff.

1) Allow people to enjoy the shortlist. Avoid dismissing the finalists (whomever they are) for at least a month.

people trying desperately to give their dogs enough exercise to still have furniture.

(The biggest mistake my area did was closing the parks).

The not being able to socialize part is the same, but the physical confinement may not be.

chatting over the fence is a different experience from spending that time in a tiny apartment, playing a horrid game of "Other people are lava" when you do have to leave, not having a car, and having all open spaces within walking distance closed with patrols...and all the sidewalks occupied by

I also think that there's not a lot of thought in these discussions given to how living situations affected lockdown stress.

Being "locked down" in a nice suburban house with plenty of space for everyone, a yard, and a car that you can drive to a state park in, especially if you also have neighbors

(And Truist is not the largest bank, although the key figure for the burden is accounts per branch. Still.)

If this actually DID go through, it would be really bad for *everyone*. Including the people who CAN just show their passports.

A bank run right now would be almost the worst case scenario

The banks are up in arms and have informed Bessent they are *unable* to comply. He didn't take that seriously.

Truist bank has about 15 million clients. He wants them to verify citizenship on all 15 million.

How are they supposed to do that?

Married women who change their last name, trans people, anyone who has changed their legal name.

Trans people most especially...great way to force them to show their Outing And Harassment/Violence papers.

There are definitely places in DC I would be careful after dark 'cause they're where the people live who are most likely to need to engage in survival crime.

But people think it's unsafe to take the Metro to downtown.

(Although, DO watch your wallet and your phone...in any large city).

This always makes me flash back to the time I was told I should absolutely pay hundreds of dollars (either to a cab or a more expensive flight) to avoid taking the LA metro because "crime."

The crime? Some guy was sitting below the no smoking sign smoking a joint.

Anyone work out why he vanished for hours this weekend? Bender?

Unfortunately, I think the Canadian government will have to be the one to step in here and tell these hospitals to knock it off.
