I was in the opposite position for a while, where I needed to send HDMI to a monitor than only had VGA and DVI.
I avoided the DVI at first, as I had nothing else that used it, but gave in after burning through two HDMI>VGA adapters in 6 months. Lesson learned 🤷‍♀️
