The Trump administration seems poised to weaken Europe through a combination of coercion and predatory policies, including arm-twisting on trade, writes @aranchagonzalez.bsky.social. Now, the European Union is “preparing to take its future into its own hands.”

Jesus died for our sins, but He may have to come back a couple of more times to cover Trump’s.

Enlightening BBC article on impact of Trump tarrifs on African countries and misguided they are

Good explainer by @financialtimes.com on Trump tariffs and how much countries will actually pay and why

My Trade Secrets response to the tariffs.
Bad news: these tariffs cd be worse than the 1930s & the Republicans are inflicting their deep pathology on the world.
Good news: this is as yet a US trade war, not a world trade war. Others can resist following Trump's crazy road.
First 300 clicks free.
This. Plus the idea that richer countries help the poorest grow. The tariffs on exports from least-developed countries such as Cambodia and Laos are among the highest.
It's not just callous. It encourages migration.
So Jan Mayen is hit with 10% tariffs. The island has a crew of 18 people, mostly researchers exporting nothing to nowhere.
The Heard and McDonald islands are uninhabited…
But I do feel the pain of the 1,500 Tokelau population.
So many bad news coming out of the rose garden. A geriatric utterly out of control.
Jeg tenker det er en del på ytterfløyene som nå ser en del korthus av argumenter falle sammen

Very much enjoyed listening to former boss @aranchagonzalez.bsky.social discussing with @gideonrachman.bsky.social the way forward for Europe in a turbulent world 🚀 🧱
Key message: sticking together would help the continent not only survive, but also thrive 🇪🇺

What a big surprise!
UK food and drink exports to the EU down 34% since Brexit

Funny....All of a sudden, no one's performing arbitrary sex-change operations on unexpecting grade-schoolers anymore.
FACT
Productivity of 🇺🇸 steel plummeted after Trump 2018 tariffs
Shielding domestic industries from foreign competition means 📌 less productivity
📌 less incentives for domestic firms to invest in efficiency improvements
📌 less opportunities for technological advance
I doubt this is in line with what the majority of Dutch would want
Why would anyone take advice from Flakey Peter? Especially on trade-related issues

Norway increases its support to Ukraine to 7.25 billion euro for 2025, more than doubling its initially planned contribution, and confirming Norway’s firm stance together with European allies in support of Ukraine 🇳🇴🇺🇦🇺🇦🇪🇺
The usual BS from the MAGA fanboys over at Politico - how is it “huge disunity” if 26 member states agree and a single, small, marginal one dissents?
Heading: Tariffs could push up costs for car industry. The graphic shows a map, with 5 steps in the manufacture of a piston. 1. Powdered aluminium sent from Tennessee 2. Turned into rods in Pennsylvania 3. Shipped to Canada, Canadian tariff paid at border, rods shaped and polished in Canada 4. Rods sent to Mexico for assembly into pistons. Direct transfers from Canada to Mexico do not incur tariffs. 5. Shipped to Michigan. US tariff paid at border. Pistons become part of engine in Michigan.
This BBC graphic is a good way to show why reciprocal 25% tariffs will cause prices on some goods to go up far more than 25%.
A piston used in a car engine made in Michigan will cross the U.S. border twice, and will be taxed 25% each time.
Some products cross the U.S. border even more than that.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau:
"Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada - their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin - a lying murderous dictator. Make that makes sense."
