Next HRM election can we all find one good, progressive candidate who doesn’t want to run this city into the ground and just organize like mad around them? We can’t let some dude with no clue and just thousands of signs win again.

This explains a lot. Not only did I get those weather alerts in fine weather but after my package was finally delivered, a month late, UPS was still apologizing for the delay, promising delivery soon. They didn’t seem to realize it had already been delivered.

Well it is true there’s not back to back busses all day long but if they’re frustrated, take the bus. The mayor is bringing the city back in time and that’s what so many of us find frustrating.

I don’t know who’s saying bus lanes are empty (it’s really hard to keep up with all the misinformation) but I take the bus and they are very well used. Adding cars to bus lanes will only add to the congestion because everyone will then be stuck in traffic.

From Halifax Councillor Kathryn Morse on facebook “BUDGET UPDATE: FORWARD OR REVERSE FOR HALIFAX TRANSIT? In last week's post I talked about the new Core Services Plan for Halifax Transit - the first significant plan to improve transit since 2016. Halifax Transit presented the plan for the first time at Transportation Standing Committee on Monday, with most councillors attending. HRM has grown by close to 100,000 residents since the last transit plan in 2016. To serve our growing population, Halifax Transit is recommending investments in new routes, new buses and more frequent service. Without additonal buses, Halifax Transit will not be able to address reliability and overcrowding challenges. More reliable and frequent bus service would encourage more people to choose transit, a positive spiral that could also help alleviate traffic congestion. Although the Core Service Plan recommends enhancing service on some of the most in-demand routes in HRM, it's not a given that Halifax Transit will get the 30 new buses and other resources it is requesting to implement the plan. The first year alone is a $14.5 million request. I brought that request in a motion to Budget Committee on Wednesday. A majority of councillors agreed to consider funding 10 extended buses this year and (Continued in next image)

and the remainder over the next few years, but nothing has been approved. If 10 new buses are approved, Halifax Transit would enhance service to Bayers Lake (Route 28) which would help people access the new medical clinic there. Other improvements would be for the route to Burnside (3 Crosstown) which is one of HRM's largest employment districts. Another priority is a route in Spryfield (9A/B) which is underserved. At $14.5 million this is a large ask and because of budget pressures this year, the odds aren't great that the 10 buses (and operational funding for drivers) will be approved. In fact there are actually some cuts to transit being proposed such as: eliminating bus service on Sundays; less frequent ferries between Halifax and Dartmouth; and no bus service after 10 pm, all cuts that I oppose. If the 10 new extended buses aren't approved on March 4, transit service improvements proposed in the Core Service Plan will have to wait until next year's budget. Because it takes several months to get new buses ordered and delivered, if this ask isn't approved until next spring, transit service improvements may not happen until late 2027 or 2028 at the earliest. Decision day is a few weeks away. Budget Committee will decide on March 4 after reviewing all the asks whether to approve the 10 new buses. The 26/27 budget is proving to be very difficult with many proposed cuts to services.
