A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.
I mean, publishers do help with the promotion, but it doesn't hurt to have people see that writers are also excited about their books, to the point of making infographics about them.
So apparently there was a discussion about writers promoting their books too often?
The other day, my editor said that writers should diligently promote their books, as opposed to posting once or twice on social media just to let people know they have a new book out.
It’s very telling how quickly the people who start “only using AI for…” whatever thing they thought they couldn’t do or afford, like art or music or plotting or reviews, or who wrongly thought AI could do that thing as well or better, move on to using it for pretty much everything.
maybe the time has come to just greenlight some new IPs ffs, it's a great story, people have also written other stories since 1954
absolutely thrilled for Yang and King here, this book was amazing and I'm glad to see it getting the recognition it richly deserves
I feel ‘Cantopop superstar’ is selling him short. The man also had incredible range as an actor, which seemed to be true of many in his generation too. Anyway, gone too soon.
I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.
This story is a delight! Read it here!

I don't write fast, and the writing process is also how I figure out what to write. Doing the actual writing is what's best for the story and the writer both.
a framed painting of a shadowy figure standing in a doorway. they’ve got a big ass head and arm but a small boxy body
i don’t like this painting in my hotel
Agree. Delightful inspiration for a horror story, not so delightful IRL.
A copy of the Indonesian edition of Real Face by Chinen Mikito. Cover art: A woman with her face half obscured by her hair stares soberly ahead. On the upper left corner, a hand is holding a whitish full-face mask.
Now that I'm over the surprise: I bought a copy of Real Face by Chinen Mikito, since I've been on a Japanese CTM (crime thriller mystery) book borrowing streak lately. If there was a bonus from the publisher, I thought it would be something like bookmarks, rather than a whole-ass book.
this was such a good, good story.
Around the same time, the president said he's got "data on the funders behind those who criticize his government." Not sinister at all.
Andrie Yunus, 27, has been a "vocal critic of moves to increase the influence of the military in the Indonesian government."

Remember when Israel still had the shame to spin lies and put out statements that the children in the yoghurt factory were Hamas or Hezbollah or whatever they use to massacre tens of thousands of children as Western politicians claim Israel's "right to defend themselves".
YA, m/f romance, the girl is blind. Brief research indicates that the blindness is thoughtfully written.

When you're writing romance and all of a sudden receive a free romance novel???? 😭
Don't know about other countries, but in Indonesia it's considered okay for writers to post in social media that they need reviewers or first readers. Interested parties can then contact the writer. Hope this helps.
They're certainly quite inspirational 😊 although, knowing me, I'll probably end up with a story about humans with these cryptids' abilities.
Last push for the Lebanon class for those interested. There are 3 spots left (I opened up 2 more) and we start this Saturday!
Resting is part of writing, so I'm taking a break by writing romance and reading up on West Javanese cryptids.
"It concerns the Tapanuli Orangutan, a species numbering only about 800, which was discovered in 2017, around the time the project began construction. A scientific study published in 2019 concluded that the dam might tip the species toward extinction."
