After we played some tunes to help them kick off the season with yet another food-bank fundraiser this was the dramatic sunset.
Today was the opening day for the season at Floathouse Patio and Grill in Ucluelet. In addition to being one of the most memorable places you can get dinner in Ukee, Floathouse has supported local musical endeavours and the local food-bank years.

Please keep and eye on the ocean when near the water, even on calm days... The Pacific is full of surprises.
This little surge channel near a friend's home is a great place to socialize in the summer but much more treacherous when the seas are up. After the winter storms it takes days of labour to clear a path through the driftwood every spring.

On Monday evenings you can catch me hosting open mic night at Brown's Socialhouse in the Tin Wis Resort, just a few feet from the beach.
Tin Wis is the Nuu-Chah-Nulth name of the beach some of you might know as MacKenzie Beach in Tofino. Tin Wis translate to "calm waters"
Small islands protect the shore from waves driving in from the open Pacific making it a popular place for paddleboarding.

It was whale soup last night just off the coast near Ucluelet. I walked down the Wild Pacific Trail with my big lens and snapped a few shots of the humpbacks, sunset, eagles, gulls and other goodness.

Getting exposure right at sunset when the sun is reflecting off the water is a never-ending challenge. This one came out over-exposed but I like the other-worldly vibe it creates.

Creative BC via Vancouver Island North Film Commission has licensed some images for a Look Book project that will be used to help film makers discover locations for film productions on Vancouver Island
CoastSmart promotes safety and responsible behaviour on and near the water. Something very close to my heart as I explore the region. I look forward to helping them spread those messages and more with some of my images in their programming

The McDiarmid cabin is a private home in Tofino located just North of The Wickaninnish Inn and Nanakʷuuʔa (aka Chesterman Beach)
