It's a beautiful afternoon to be waiting for my wife to get home to let me back into our house after I accidentally locked myself into the porch roof while cleaning gutters
The NYC subway with a 1 year old in a backpack is the kindest, friendliest place I've ever been.

it sure is

My most "in my day" observation on this is that it's amazing how the recommended amount of protein you need according to folks at the gym keeps going up as more companies figure out how to make more protein products. People pre-2000 must have been dying of protein deficiency all the time.

you know if the US just switched to the metric system right now gas prices would drop from $4 to like $1.
This resident of D.C., who has no voting representation in Congress, would appreciate it if you did this.
When Banff installed wildlife crossings over the freeways, roadkill went down by over 97%. That also means a lot of human injuries and deaths prevented.
when opinions are held as sacrosanct, and something that happens to be true-to-me is respected as though it is or could be the whole of truth itself, charlatans become experts

The President may, of course, engage in his own expressive conduct, including criticizing the views, reporting, or programming of NPR, PBS, or any other news outlet with whom he disagrees. The government may also fund its own speech and may fund government programs that promote specific perspectives on issues of public importance, and it may decide which views or perspectives to convey—and which not to convey—in any such government speech or program. And it may impose limits on federal grants to ensure that they are deployed to further the legitimate purposes of the program and may pick and choose among applicants based on legitimate criteria. But the First Amendment draws a line, which the government may not cross, at efforts to use government power—including the power of the purse—“to punish or suppress disfavored expression” by others.
BREAKING
Trump’s executive order directing federal agencies to stop funding NPR and PBS is “unlawful and unenforceable,” a federal judge ruled.

I just resigned from NASA. It breaks my heart to leave, but I’ve become convinced the best path forward is to do the best science I can, and that can’t be here anymore. I’m still in love with the promise of those four magic letters. Ad astra per aspera, and remember: Earth is the only good planet.

Sure, it's bad politics, but at least it's also bad policy.

A cyclist was killed yesterday a few blocks from my house. Bike lanes are a culture war thing now that cuts across parties. The Trump-Bowser side of that war removes bike lanes even if it doesn't create parking or improve traffic. They think no one should bike, cyclists getting hurt is the goal.
The American Chemical Society @acs.org started a really funny and charming Planet-Money-ish youtube channel and I want more people to know about it.
