Something like that triggering anxiety and depression is tough to deal with, I experienced something similar for a couple years at grocery stores; it sounds like you're giving yourself a hard time for experiencing that, but nobody controls what they feel, it's not your fault
If you haven't yet, it might be worth looking into blackout covers for windows; I got some and you basically can't tell what time it is outside unless you go to another room. I suppose that covering windows won't do much good if you need to go outside, but it's something to possibly consider
