Yes, that's how I first noticed them. And they're so quick and busy. No time to stop and chat like sparrows.

I would go watch this every day.

Red breasted nuthatch is still pecking away making a home in my mountain ash. He's been at it half heartedly for a couple of weeks. Seems to be working in earnest now though. Getting things done before the next dump of snow. #yyc

When I think 'romp' I'm picturing lighthearted. So No, not a romp.

Today's gem from "The Cat Who Saved The Library" by Sosuke Natsukawa: "The most important things always reside in the heart."

It's probably my favourite thing about the whole series. It doesn't come down to some fancy bit of previously unknown magic. It doesn't come down to trickery. It all comes down to laying it all on the line, forcing someone's hand, and having the faith that they will make the right decision.

What's the deal with closed-loop geothermal? I talk to Eavor’s Jeanine Vany and Mark Fitzgerald about the engineering breakthroughs that could finally make geothermal geography-agnostic.

Catching up on my backlog and I’m literally yelling “no fucking way!” like a twelve year old watching the final Avengers Endgame battle. Just banger after science banger. How could you NOT want your country doing cool future shit like this?

That's quite the cowardly response to a heinous criminal act. I expect better from my government.

How far back in time can you understand English? An experiment in language change

If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.

It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

I saw that. So far it doesn't look like the drones are bringing much to the party. I can see how they can cover areas where fixed cameras can't, and provide interesting viewpoints. I just wish they were a little less obtrusive.

The whine from the drones while watching downhill skiing is pretty annoying. I'm sure they'll eventually figure out how to noise cancel it. But until then I'll rage.

OMG how I enjoyed "A Drop of Corruption" by Robert Jackson Bennett. And a lot of that joy comes from the fantastic narration by Andrew Fallaize. His Ana is so bonkers that it brings me joy.

That's a TV watching outfit for sure. Lots of room for doggos and snacks inside too.

@devinheroux.bsky.social what is up with the abysmal coverage of the opening ceremonies? Commercials every 5 min or less? NBC didn't go to commercial during the first 40 minutes. No excuse for our public broadcaster to do such a poor job.

Thanks, I will

What the hell CBC? Commercials every 5 min? It's hard to believe NBC's coverage is better than yours. #olympics
