Julie (1956). This one falls comfortably into the ‘so bad it’s good’ category. Every plot point raises the implausibility to new heights, culminating in a flight sequence that contributed at least five good gags to Airplane! Day and Jourdan do their best with the awful script. Hilarious.

That cold, detached Berlin School style tends to divide people. I am a fan, but still prefer his earlier work, particularly Yella, Barbara, Jerichow and Wolfsburg.

A bit niche but: Running/sports shoes are getting uglier year on year.

A great pub.

Yes, a big lovable fool. We lost him after a terrible day when he broke his leg and the x-rays revealed other underlying stuff. There was nothing to be done. 😢

Gorgeous. So hard to lose them.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear that - we lost Ralfie last year too.

I remember going to school in the dark back then.

Possibly the film I have seen more than any other. I fell in love with it on release (I was 22) and the notion that something like this could be produced by an Irish studio/crew/cast seemed astonishing at the time.

To be fair, I am more on board with the habitual grumpiness than the dreadful dad dancing.

Yes, almost miraculous.

I always preferred, “you could certainly sink a pint of Harp…if you had a sink”.

I remember watching the Bluebird crash on tv when I was eight. I couldn’t quite believe the daring man had died.

Even pre-Brexit, Irish customs used to give me odd looks, uncertain whether all the beer could really be for personal use.

It’s nice to be reminded of the many evenings I’ve spent in there. Definitely among the top five spots in town. (Depressingly, I haven’t been since Brexit, as it’s no longer possible to fill up the car and drive across the UK)

R.I.P. (I haven’t seen those covers for a long time but they are still, nonetheless, lodged in my head.)

It’s incredibly silly but if you allow for that you’ll have a good time.

As a local girl, maybe the Joanne Hayes story would interest her.

Maybe a tad unfair, Little Amelie was decent.

They are all shite. Every one of last year’s crop is better than all of them.
