I really really enjoyed this book, read it in like two days (interrupted only by work). Highly recommend!

Such embarrassing shortsightedness by the UK Government, esp given who the CERN DG is right now..

A black tote bag with the imperial coat-of-arms from the TV show Foundation embroidered on in yellow thread. The lower half of the bag has the word FOUNDATION on it using the stylised font of the TV show. The shoulder strap of the bag has the owner's name in Elvish characters embroidered on using copper thread

A closeup of the coat-of-arms of the tote bag. It shows a circular emblem with a central shape resembling a starburst that radiates six lines towards the edge. The central starburst contains a cross in made using red wire stitched to the fabric. On either side are two smaller stars

I made this Foundation-themed tote bag for a friend but kept forgetting to actually post the pictures.. the art work is mostly from the recent TV show because I couldn't find original work by Asimov. Very happy with how it turned out, esp. since this was my first attempt at goldwork ๐Ÿชก

Fully agree, every time I played with it, it was also extremely useless. The only thing it could do halfway well is proofreading and there are less problematic alternatives. If the future really has to rely on large-scale intellectual property theft, I'm not sure I want any part in it..

very much looking forward to @rfkuang.bsky.social's Manchester event tonight!

the check is done client-side by polling a specific bsky.app endpoint as @uncenter.dev's link pointed out. I guess the neatest solution for android or iOS would be to recompile the app (which is opensource) without this check..?

yeah.. the reputation I sometimes see German trains having internationally is totally undeserved ๐Ÿ˜• at least you get most of your money back in the UK for this kind of delay but Deutsche Bahn doesn't even do that

.. quite sad to see how quickly this turned into an immigration scandal rather than the government cover-up scandal it is ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

It's utterly shocking that this could happen in a democracy.. Fantastic and engaging reporting and impressive perseverance in getting this story out by @lewisgoodall.com and @newsagents.bsky.social

Neurodivergence and accountability in free software

(this defence was discussed in-depth by Drew DeVault in the context of the Free Software movement drewdevault.com/2024/09/25/2...)

Pretending that ND people just can't help themselves but be repugnant is a very harmful stereotype, making this excuse deeply ableist! Holding harassers to account is important and so is not buying their excuses. kudos to @maitlis.bsky.social & @jonsopel1.bsky.social for pointing this out ๐Ÿ˜Š

Blaming behaviour like this (or that Nazi salute) on being neurodivergent (autism in this case) is extremely offensive to the vast, vast majority of ND folk who don't go around harassing people.. makes me sick every time someone tries this ๐Ÿ˜ก

After Labour's lurch right on immigration now this.. why exactly are these people still trying to court Reform voters (who wouldn't vote for you anyway) while alienating their own base? It clearly worked very well for the Dems all these times..

Hi Zoรซ, I'm working on particle physics and really liked your book on PhD mental health (looking forward to the sequel). Very happy to see you here since your tweets got me to start my own ADHD journey ๐Ÿ˜Š

Great to be @cern.bsky.social for a workshop on negative weights in Monte Carlo generation (weather could be better though)

this is utterly terrifying.. I don't think I'll be able to suggest students (or anyone really) attend conferences in the US with good conscience for quite some time

FWIW, I've quickly bodged together an up-to-date version for both the House and Senate from 1945 - 2025 (code here gitlab.com/-/snippets/4..., data from voteview.com)
