Interesting. I started hearing it after lockdown in Australia, in theatre contexts (rehearsals, etc.) and used quite sincerely - acknowledging time taken, effort, generosity, creativity, etc. Anything that wasn't necessarily tangible or direct, but of worth to the speaker. I say it a lot now too.

I may have guffawed the first (second, third...) time I read it. Delightful book.
